FIA PApers for GTAm

Copies of original FIA homologation papers on the GTAm (or any car that was ever homologated by the FIA) can be obtained from ACCUS, which is the organization that represents the FIA in the United States. ACCUS stands for Automobile Competition Committee of the United States. BTW, the current president of ACCUS is Nick Craw, who was SCCA president for many years.

You will need the document number for the FIA papers that you want when you contact them. A complete list of FIA document numbers is in a file at the Alfa Racing Group over at Yahoo (alfaracing@yahoogroups.com).

ACCUS is in Denver, Colorado. 303-730-8100 or 877-71-ACCUS. You can find them on the web with a Google search. I think they also have a new service that provides some sort of additional documentation for vintage race cars, besides the original FIA papers.

I hate to open up an old can of worms here, but what you will see in the FIA papers for cars where Alfa Romeo homologated the old narrow angle twin plug head (10551 GTAm, GTA Jr, 2000 GTV, Alfetta Coupe and Alfetta Sedan, to name a few that I know of) is that the the stated valve angle is 60 degrees, not 45 degrees. The technical specifications in FIA homologation papers are provided by the manufacturer.

Please don't start yelling at me how you measured the valve angle yourself and it's 45 degrees. I am not disputing you. I AM saying Alfa homologated the head with a 60 degree included valve angle. If you want to see for yourself, obtain the FIA papers like I did. Perhaps someone can explain the discrepancy.

Yes. I scanned them before, but I was never able to get them sent. I'll take another stab at it.

OLDALFAGUY

I have received a reply from ACCUS regarding the FIA document numbers you posted, some of which you may already have. ACCUS/FIA wants $150 per document..... Is there anyway I could talk you into making some copies and sending them my way? I'm on a fishing expedition, but somehow buying $1000 worth of documents to only learn I didn't get the right one, or I only needed one seems silly.

Please e-mail me andyb (at) randrew (dot) com

Did you find page 2 of the 1750 or the GTAM FIA papers that has the car weight listed? If you could post that page it would be greatly appreciated.

thanks,

Chris

Interestingly the weight page no longer exists in any of the data bases that you can buy the Homologation forms from. I do have a form for What SCCA accepted on the 1969 1750 GTV with a weight stating 2135lbs if that will help. I believe the cars were allowed to run much lighter in the FIA touring cars Group 2-3, I just have no proof.

The book "Alleggerita" has a copy of the original FIA homologation papers in it including page 2. The weight listed there is 920kg or 2035.5 pounds.

The 2000 GTV is FIA homologated as 970kg or 2138 pounds.

Would it be possible to beg, borrow, buy a copy of that page from you?

There are replica GTam heads and monosleeves available, if a motor could be had........$$$$ The Tech nazi's will need full documentation before 240hp could be unleashed in a 105 legally.

Hi there.

I would hate to spoil your party but 240bhp output for a GTAm engine is rather optimistic !

There are no dyno readouts that support that claim and having spoken the Autodelta Engineer who prepared Toine Hezemans GTAm in the 70,s he claimed that the best engines pulled 215/220.

The Autodelta 16v engine could reach that power output that were used in the 116 alfetta,s for rallying and sprints.(Not sure if they used this engine in 105 coupes for racing)

I was surprised to also hear that On GTA 1300/1600cc engines built by Autodelta there were variations of 6/8 BHP between the top engine and the lowest. All the engines receiving the same attention to detail. This is down to the science of expansion and contraction of metals in engines that an engine builder has no control over and applies to all engine building.
