'67 GTV 1600 vs. '67 Super's 1600

I'm in the process of restoring my '67 Giulia Super and discovered that the block (AR00536) is from either a GTV or a Boattail.

I know that the Super specs state about a HP difference of approx. (13 hp) less. The GTV:125 @ 6000 rpm vs. the Super's: 112 @ 5500 rpm. Torque was 115 @ 2800 for the GTV vs. 110 @ 2900 for the Super. Gearing was identical for both.

The questions are: did the GTV have different cams, does the block (crank)make a difference or was it just a matter of advancing the timing. ?

Interestingly enough, the Giulia SS (1600) developed 129 hp @ 6500 rpm with Veloce cams. Which again makes you wonder how a car with more hp (and Veloce Cams) than the GTV can be 2.5 sec. slower to 60 mph?

The difference is in the carbs, according to the information I have the GTV had the 40 DCOE 27 with a 30 venturi and 120 main jet whereas the Super had the 40 DCOE 24 with a 27 venturi and 110 main jet. The cam and distributor along with the engine internals were the same. the specs I have show the SS only produced 3 more HP the the GTV and at 6500 rpm. I don't have torque figures but maybe the torque was less? The negligable increase power at a higher rpm might not be much help for off the line acceleration. Also what does an SS weigh? My understanding is they were not as successful as anticipated because they weighed too much.

Weight Diff.

Thanks for responding "Rogerspeed". The SS weight: 2273 vs. GTV:2230. That should not make a 2 sec. difference.

It's hard to believe that different venturi sizing would create that much more hp. So you think the cranks were identical?

Another difference is differential ratio, perhaps to go with the heavier car. The Ti Super had an oil cooler as did the GTA but mounted in front of the radiator according to the parts books.

The block, crank (stroke), clutch were all the same for the 1600's. 1300's and 1750's and 2000's had different cranks (stroke, and the 2000 had different cylinder spacing). There were several different cams used on all these cars.

Heads were similar within a displacement. Valve size differs vs displacement.

Some had different pistons with various cpmpression ratios, partly depending on country they were built for.
