If you have a GT then you know what these are. You also know they get RUUUSTY! At times, sourcing them can be a real challenge too. So, you in up repairing them. I thought it might be helpful to folks see how that is done.
All of the weather stripping rails were put in the blast cabinet and the paint was removed.
Once cleaned the level of damage was clearly bad...
The sections that just had pinhole damage we used copper backed plug weld pliers and welded them up.
But the sections that had far worst damage, we made center sections for it.
The repair section....
After that, metal etch primer then black epoxy paint.

Hi GTV-GR, I would agree the aluminum units that are available in Europe is the way to go. But we only needed to fix three of the ten. If we need to fix half or more, then we would have called Max. BTW, how are things going with your motor issues?

Missed the developments here.... air boxes.... they can work fine for 1600 as the size is not a problem. On our twin spark motors we really cannot get within 5BHP when using a cold air box.... we put it down to volumes - we just think you can't make them big enough to flow the volumes of air required, so you end up restricting the engine. As soon as we take the box off, the power comes back. We even tried home making some really big ones from aluminium and it still did not give the power of open trumpets or Pipercross single filter. Looks like you have having some fun with the channels there Daron!

That is quite a target for SUV's!
I hope the owner has good luck when leaving it parked.

Daron -
Seeing the gas door delete pic reminded me that I had a question for you regarding body panel adhesive. In my case it concerns a small patch uf rust under the c pillar badge. Since I don't have access to a TIG and am not ready to remove my headliner, I was contemplating cutting out the area with the rust and making a patch with laps and gluing it in (laps on the inside of course). What is your general feeling about body work with adhesives instead of welding and is this specifically a reasonable plan?
Thanks,
Bill

Hi Bill. I have a 165 pound 7 month old puppy in my lap demanding that I play (I just got home). So if this sounds odd, it's because its in a rush. If you must do it this way use liquid metal and a fair amount of cavity wax. This is not a great long term deal but it will work.

Thanks, Daron. I guess maybe I'll just treat it and paint it as a stop gap until I'm ready to take it apart and do it right.

So the front of the car is getting a GTA mesh grill set-up. But in this case we are resetting the grill to be deep set to the opening.
Here you can see the 1-1/2 inch flange on the top plate.
And here the bottom plate
And here the grill was test fitted
And here with the other trim pieces
