Heater (first model) Giulia

Well, after completely respraying, de-rusting and changing the heater valve, I started putting the complete heating unit back in my Giulia. As some of you might know, the heater unit consists of 2 separate units, 1 metal top unit with the heating radiator inside, this one bolts on to the dash with 4 well hidden and offcourse, hard to get to screws...
The other one is a plastic box wich contains the ventilator, it is attached to the metal top unit using 4 clips...

Well, it's this plastic bottom unit that is giving me a real hard time!!!

Normally, the bottom unit's plastic lip falls over the metal top unit (that's what I think), but I just can't install it in the car.

There's not enough room to install the whole thing, first you have to put in the top unit, and then you have to get the plastic box underneath it...wich is a real, real pain!!

So are there Alfisti out there who have installed a heater (with metal heater valve) in their car, and who can give me some tips, advice, etc... maybe someone has some schematics???
I really need it!!
thanks!

I'm doing this job right now - I just pulled the box and have been cleaning it up. The heater valve (a metal one) is leaking, and the core might be also - I need to have it pressure checked.

I sure hope the plastic heater valve i bought is a work-alike - it certainly looks correct without having trial-fit it.

I also need to re-do both of the foam gaskets, for which I plan to just get some foam and cut out the right shapes.

Hi Jim, for sheer originality, I traced the original valve for the metal heater valve in germany, here's the link:

http://www.heinbrand.com/shop.php?la...owall=&bg_id=8

the item: AR03,011,01 diaphragm for heater valve, 1.series
The price is 7,28 EUR...

I'll be posting pictures of my work on the heaterunit soon, so check out the pic room!!

Oh, so you were actually able to re-build your heater valve as opposed to simply replacing it? That would be preferable to wholesale replacement in my opinion. I will look at HeinBrand.

THX

Yes indeed! I just opened the heating valve up, and changed the old, leaking seal with a brand new one from Heinebrand!
It fit like a glove, and the whole heatingvalve now works fine...
