I dig it. You will have a sweet car when you are all done with it.

Great car, good luck with your suspension revamp. Love the stance.

Just wanted to know the source of your 2L spindles. Did you purchase new or used, I would like this upgrade myself, and have not been able to locate new units, only used.

Not that I have to have new, just can't find them in my catalogs.

Will 2L Spider units work as well? Sorry, my knowledge is limited in this area.

Keep on bustin' knuckles, you will forget all the blood loss the first time you run that 1:40!

Thanks. The 2L spindles are used. Used is fine IMO as long as the bearing races and lock-nut threads look good. I picked them up, along with rotors and calipers, from Santo's. I think he has a bunch more lying around. I'm fairly sure that Spiders and 2L GTVs all utilize the same brakes and therefore the same spindles, rotors, and calipers.

Can't wait to get to Willow

Last night I mounted the battery in the trunk. Does anybody have any good ideas about how, or what route, to run the 2 gauge wire to the trunk?

Thanks

I haven't installed them yet, but will post pics as soon as I do. The fronts use factory end links, but I'm not sure about the back, they look factory too... maybe somebody else can pitch in some info.

Hey, everbody has to have dreams.
This is what I was thinking... I used to run 1:41s with my Sentra which made about 150hp and weighed about 2300+ lbs (video here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RG1LIsWFft0). So if this GTV weighs 2100+, and I can somehow manage 140 hp or so, I should be able to get close to 1:40... in theory. I don't know, does this seem plausible?

cool vid, u caught that c5 in a hearbeat

I think its possible with R compounds... but still a challenge

open trackracing... great group to run with

$145 special, self tech, no crotch belt required, just a helment and kitchen extingusher. Only place i been to that is less of a hassle to run is the "ring". put your money in the vending machince for a ticket and your off! no marshals or waiver to sign or any other bs. God bless lawyerless countries

very fast group of guys too, radicals, NASA vipers and evo's. never seen alfa out there yet.

yeah, Opentrackracing.com is one of the best bunch of guys i have ever run with. Speedventures is just as good and Red line Track events is a quality group as well. They are all about $125-$150 for one day at the track. You get 5 or more 30 min sessions and the only requirement is a helmet. Can't beat it with a stick!

Alright, over the weekend I removed every last thing from the rear axle area. Then I cleaned it out and resprayed a light coat of undercoat to make things all black and pretty. My goal it to go from this...

to this...

Carl's GTV (This is Carl's picture borrowed from smugmug)

This evening I finished replacing the fuel filter (which got bashed in from the trunion hitting it) and the fuel hoses. The car came with the nice fuel pump.

I also finished placing a small foam spacer under the battery to keep it tight. I put four bolts up through the body and locked them in with lock washers and nuts. That way they are captive and I don't have to fight with reaching them later when I need to replace or remove the battery and the diff is in the way. Then I placed the battery holder over the battery onto the four studs and locked it down with lock washers and nuts (all grade 8, probably overkill). The trunk is probably the messiest part of the car...

I also started assembling the passenger front suspension. Sneak peek.

Here's a couple pix of classic butts:

The 66 Stang is 100% original body, no putty. It was originally yellow, but got a flash paintjob a few years before I acquired it. And the engine had been stored wet, so the cylinder wall collapsed about 500 miles after the previous owner started driving it. I overhauled another 6 cylinder and installed it. The car has about 64,000 original miles.

The Junior 1300 has a fresh engine, and I'll retain the yellow, in one fashion or another.

The little go cart size car next to the Stang is an 88 Olds Quad Four promotional body. I bought the body and built a frame for it as a downhill coaster. I'll give it to my grandson. There are only 3 or so of these orignal bodies left in existence.

Thanks for the pics. The rears have some striking similarities, I wonder who designed the mustang.

I was prepping the trunion for paint tonight when I noticed there was a bushing missing. Is it critical, and are there performance replacements? Here is a pic of each end side by side to make it easier to see the sandwiched bushing that is missing.

Also, I have been trying to remove the inner, stainless door sill. I removed all the visible screws, but can't get the thing to budge. What am I missing?

Bryan,

Re the trunnion, yes these spacers are important and should be replaced if missing or cracked. If not available off the shelf they can be turned up from hard nylon stock. I would also seriously recommend you replacing the bush in that end housing if it's an unknown quantity. Doing this will also make fitting correct spacers much easier - just measure the gap before you disassemble.

Re the sill plates, I also suspect that I'm going to encounter the same problem on my car. I suspect that someone might have used a mastick or silicone etc to bond the plates to the sill and help keep out water. If this is the case with you, try using a hairdryer to see if that will free it up. Wider heads might chime in first, though.

Alex.
