Mysterious cylinder liners
I have come into possession of some weird cylinder liners. They were on the shelf at Omega Motorsports, back to the days of Rex Chalmers. The box says: "1600 liners from 1750". They look like NOS, never used.
Here's what they look like:
- Same height as 1600 liners (1750 liners are taller)
- Inner diameter 80 mm (can't tell if they were bored out from the stock 1600 ID of 78 mm or if they came that way)
- Outer diameter of the part that slides down into the block is about 1 mm larger than 1600 liners, so they can't be used in a 1600. If they were turned down to the right OD for a 1600 it looks like the walls might get too thin
- The machined flat area on the side of the liner looks more like a 1750 liner.
So: they can't be used in a 1750 (wrong height). They can't be used in a stock 1600 application (bored out to 80 mm). They can't be used in a modified 1600 app unless the block is modified to take the larger OD.
Does anyone know what we have here? I can take some pics if helpful.
