Per Max -
"Tyre size recommended, either 195/60 or 195/55. I will be using 195/55 for my car. Rotating a spare is a good idea, but most tyres are directional so this is not practical - as a result I usually just swap front to back half way through the rear tyres life."

With a 15" wheel quite a few options become available. I'll have to do some research...

Wiring Harness and Alternator

I picked-up this Alternator and plan on installing a new wiring harness as to ensure adequate electric current to all those in need.

Blue Translucent Gunk?

O.k. Daron, your turn since no one seemed to know on the other thread, and I don't even know what thread it was, so I'm not a lot of help, now am I?

What is the thin, translucent sky blue "stuff" that you squeeze out of a tube to fill fine creases, sanding marks, scratches etc. when priming, wet sanding, spraying the color coat, wet sanding again and filling etc. Pat called it "fisheye" but from what I've read on other threads it actually prevents "fisheye" if I understood correctly;" it could be called "fisheye filler" or "fisheye preventer" for all I know. Who knows the EPA may have outlawed it by now since we last used it.

I'd like to meet my maker without still pondering what the 4377 that stuff is called.

Thanks...

Motor....

Well, I started taking apart the motor and here is what I found. I think it just needed an Italian Tune-Up...after leaning the fuel mixture out a bit.

It probably glaze. It comes in several thicknesses from a little thick to very thin and runny.

I can't believe we are finally getting close! The car is in epoxy and primer/surfacer.

Thumbs up

Now there's just 300 hours of sanding and rubbing back, and then the complete assembly of the car left to do
You're still waaaaayyyy ahead of me. My body is just going into the shop, not expecting to see it again until July.

As we say in aviaiton, 90% done, 90% still to do. Way to go Daron, mucho impressive amount and quality of work

Akitaman: Following all your different threads, it appears as though all the cars are at a similar stage of preparation. Is this actually the case? So you are doing all the sanding dusty crap at the same time, all spraying all finishing. So your shop is appropriately clean for each stage at any given time. All most like fixing these cars in a "batch"?

Just an observation.

Cheers

Wow! Adam you must have been in the room last week when the men and I talked about that same issue. It was and wasn't planed. Some cars had much more repairs needed then others. Some cars are on a fast track build and need to get back to there homes. I wanted the cars that are close to being done, to get done, so I pushed the men hard on that subject (I'm not proud of that fact). We put in a lot of hours over the last two weeks (each man averaged over 55 hrs per week), we really had no time for anything else. Quality can not sustain at that rate, so we shut it down on Friday at the normal time. But because of the effort, we are in a better place next week. The other point you made is correct too. When the cars get color, we can't have sanding and welding anywhere near them. So the ones that are close need to be done as near together as possible.

Good observation Adam!

I just put a set of 205/55 ZR15 Avon Tech M500 on my '71 GTV 1750... man do those tires stick to the road. I wrapped them around a set of team dynamics wheels from Group2. I purchased the Rallye wheel as I like the look a little better than the race wheels for the GTV. Next time we are at the track together you can take "Frankie" out for a spin and see what you think. Just be gentle, he doesn't like revving much past 7800 RPM in 4th on the back straight

Here is the TireRack Avon Tech M500 page. Sizes show a 195/55 ZR15, just right for you.

Giving the car the weekend to let it's primer shrink. It was now time to block sand the surface. First is guide coat (grayish black stuff). The point to guide coat is to help point out the highs and lows in the body work.

Once the first round of block sanding is complete (80 grit), you can see the surface is getting cut very straight. We then repeated the guide coat, and then sand with 180 grit. We will continue the step sanding with 240 and 320 after the car returns from having it's new upgraded suspension installed at group two.

We also tinted some bed liner and sprayed the trunk and inside of the rear quarter panels.

It's not going to be blue underneath then ... ie. suspension is being installed.
