while we are still waiting for the blasters to get done with the car. I shot the trunk with a small change. The customer requested a white sealer. This will shift the hue of the color a little, but will bring the brightness up a bit.

You may notice that the script holes are missing. I welded them up because we are changing to a 1750 script. This trunk was off of a GT 1300 jr. The holes would not line up with the new badge.

A quick question before you get to far into the trunk lid.

It was my understanding that the 1750's and 2000's had the round badge recess and engine size script whereas the Jnr's had the completely flat trunk lid. Am i correct on this detail.?

Thus, to do this change, you will need to use the correct spec lid or at least fabricate the recess.

Cheers.

2000 trunks had deeper recess then 1750's. You are very correct. The jr. had no recess. The owner bought this trunk and doesn't mind that it is different......I think? Good question Adam! I have to meet up with him today. I'll make certain that he doesn't mind. Besides this is just a final practice run. The trunk will be repainted when the car gets painted. Thanks for bringing that up!

Akitaman, that interesting that your client wishes to lighten the Blue hue with the lighter primer colour ...wouldn't that bring him closer to the LeMans Blue hue? So I thought I should finally post a pic of my GTV in the condition that I brought her home in. I believe that the paint is the original paint and as you can see, the Arizona sun and wind have burned away the topcoat colour to expose the original factory red oxide primer.

I'm not a paint expert... so do you think that this darker primer colour would impart a darker shade of blue as well? My personal preferance will be to go darker in the Blue hues (but not a dark as the Olandese Blue of Cor's GTV).

Valid point Rossano, the color itself will be unaffected. The brilliants it cast will. Does that make sense? In other words, it's like seeing the blue on a cloudy day versus a sunny day.

No worries on the trunk lid, she'll be a daily driver. Life is too short to worry about the badge recess...

Not all 1750's had recessed badges ... ofcourse it would not be that simple, being an Alfa Romeo.

I believe there is no rule ... unfortunately , so that boot lid might be correct without the recess.

And now for something completely different:

VW series IV Jetta trunk lids were redesigned slightly with a small integral 'spoiler' for the 2004 model years. The earlier style trunk lid is NLA so if your 2002 Jetta gets hit from behind the bodyshop automatically puts on a 2004-5 Jetta trunk lid.

Possibly this could explain differences in trunk recesses within a model year?

Well, that is a good idea. This trunk was with out doubt, original to the gt 1300 jr. I say this because I've had NOS trunks before, and in all cases the trunk didn't have the tar based sound deadener in it. This one did. I've also (as PSK suggested) have had original 1750's where one would be deeper then the other.

Guys,

I've found the thread where I asked the 'badge' recess question: Next boot lid question

While accident repairs could account for some differences ... it appears not all.

Okay after shooting my hood and trunk I came to this place to see the blasting of the customers car. this is a giant location. They blast anything from nuts and bolts to large cranes and ship parts. It's sits in a 20 acre lot, with 15 to 20 buildings. All buildings either blast or powder coat.

I delivered the car on the other side of the yard. They pick up everything with cranes or giant fork lifts to move them in place.

These two guys are going to do the work. This will take a great deal of time.

At this point we stopped for a few minutes. The body filler activity on the car is high. So we had the manager come down to deside the cost to remove the more then expected material. Also the doors need to be closed to shoot the other side. This process will take another few hours and I needed to live for other things on the day. I also have video of this that I will post when I have time.

Great shots akitaman! Wouldn't ya know it? A "Clean" strip sequence! Those guys look like Tusken Raiders when they get down to business.

Later model 1750GTVs (and subsequentially 2000GTVs) have slightly smaller trunks due to increased volume in the rear seating area.

I gleaned that info from my GTV Production Figures post way back when.

Wow...

I am in shock, and it is not even my car!

With all those stitched in patches, it looks like the auto equivalent of Frankenstein.

At least it is in good hands.
