Factory Colors

I seem to recall a thread regarding this topic some time ago but I could not find it anywhere.

One of the fun things about restoring a car is picking the color you're going to paint it. Now our car was repainted a green that is somewhat close to an original Alfa Green. The paint job was horrible, perhaps done at Earl Scheib, or somewhere worse. The original color of the car was white, which is not a bad color, especially for a car with no AC. Personally I think Alfas should be Red. Corsa Rosso would be my choice if it were 100% up to me, but since I've declared that I'm restoring this car for my young bride, Chela, also known as "she with the photography, knitting, shoe and motorcycle fetish" and who allows a good part of our income to go to cars, motorcycles, and things like air compressors, ReelCraft hose reels, and MiG welders, I've told her that many of the artistic choices regarding the car are hers. As an Alfista with a good amount of mechanical mana, I trust her judgement, and since she wants to do the car as original, a color that was proper for a 67 Giulia Sprint GT Veloce is an absolute.

Is there a list somewhere that we can persuse to see what options there are other than red? I've seen GTVs in yellow, gray, light and dark blue, green, red, white and even silver.

Like I said, I'm still pulling for red, but ultimately it's her choice.

Maybe I paint to many Alfa's (the red) but I'm on her side. You go to a Alfa gathering and 90% are red. A.R.501(alfa Red) or A.R 130 (Corso Rosso). I've just posted a picture of a door I painted for my 67 GTV and it's green. With that said, the green it should be is pino verda. I'm not a fan of the hue in verda so I made my own green up. Keep in mind the paint produced today can get it close but not exact ( in some cases) because of the pigments used back then are now no long available or discontinued. Most paint manufactures work very hard to replicate color but some of the old paint chips are to hard to reproduce to an exact standard. Good luck and keep us posted.

There is a thread under the Restoration for your Alfa Romeo section, 1972 Alfa Romeo Color Chart.
