So I'm having someone design a F.I. set-up using weber DCOE look-a-likes. And he asked for the engine serial number. Now, I've had a few GTV's over the years and the area on the block where the serial number is has always been there. But not on this block. The area is blank. Why? The plate is cased but no number?
Depending of the year of the engine, the serial number will be in one of two locations. Early engines have the number just aft of the distributor while later engines (roughly starting around the intro of the 2l in 1972) have the number on the leftside bellhousing flange just below the head.

papajam, you never let me down! yes, there it was by the header! Now, why have you not told me why there is a slight off set on that same car? I don't see it my 69 GTV or my 72 spider?
The 2 L engines are taller by nearly 3/8 inch. Could that be the 'offset' cause you asked about? Motor mounts are the same, and the front cross member is the same, so the engine should be in the same position laterally.
Well, it's the front brake rotors that are offset. And maybe there all that way? If you measure from the back of the rotor to the wall directly behind it where the suspention mounts the driver side is 1/4 to about 3/8's wider then the passenger side.
