Engines that fit 105
Hi there,
I am about to start my second project which is stepfront GTV with lot of HP for trackays, but as well for road application.
Could you please tell me which later Alfa Romeo engines fit 105 coupe.
People speak about 75 2.0 TS (8 valves), so I assume that is the most common one. Is there any other alternative, to get more reliability and HP? I would just consider options with little amount of modifications.
Thanks

Just to clarify, with little modifications I meant modifications which are necessary to fit the engine in 105 engine bay.
Modifications on the engine itself are not the problem.
I would like to get out around 175 reliable HP, which could be used on a normal road as well.
Cheers.

To make it more period you would convert to carbs and an 8-plug distributor, these also fit in the space available. You also need sump, oil pump, headers, flywheel. I could provide these but I'm on the other side of the world!
Shop locally - give Richard at Alfaholics a call, they've done it all before.
VS. PACE Engineering.

Vsarp, thanks for the response. I already sent an email to Alfaholics.
For this stage I would just like to find out which Alfa engines fit. Is it only from Alfa 75 2.0 TS 8v or some other as well?
Thx.

check www.imw-alfa.com Hans Milo put a GTV6/Milano motor in a GTV, needed Alfa 6 parts, which should be easier to source in europe than in the states, or a Maserati Biturbo transmission can be used. Not inexpensive but his modified 3.1 produces 200 hp at the rear wheels

Yep, the 75 TS is the easiest fit. The same basic unit is in some front drive models, but complications with oil pump locations etc. make these a much more difficult job. Go 75.

And what is the advantage of 8v unit instead of 16v? I understand that everyone prefer 8v since it has aluminium block?
Was 16v also in Alfa 75?
Cheers

The advantage of the 8v Aluminium unit is that it is basically the old style 105 2000 with various changes to adapt to the newer T/S head.
No production 16v was in a 75. The 16v motors are Fiat/ Lancia engines with iron blocks, all the dimensions, fittings, mounts, plumbing etc. are different.
Not that a 16v can't be put into a 105, but the 8v is virtually a drop-in job in relative terms. And of course it IS an ALFA engine;- the production version of the old GTAm race engine at that! It's far more compatable with the concept of a GTA replica than the alternatives.

Vsarp, thanks for clarifying that. In ideal case I would like to have an original engine and lot of HP, but on the other side I would also like it to be reliable.
I did not think to put anything else than Alfa engine, so I will go for 8v TS. Sound like a good choice.
Cheers

Several years ago, I came across a web site featuring a GTV with a Ford 5.0L V8 under the hood! The entire firewall had to be moved back.
