We're not talking double or triple the number of MGs vs. Alfas, the production was an order of magnitude greater and that is why the bodyshells are being produced.
It do not think that they made all new tooling and production facilities.
Just a few quotes from British Motor Heritage Limited

"British Motor Heritage Limited was established in 1975 to support owners and the marketplace by putting genuine components for classic British cars back into manufacture, using original tools wherever possible. Since 2001, when the company was acquired from BMW, it has been successfully run as an independant company.
"

"Original press dies
– produce the majority of the components – over 3000 press tools weighing in excess of 2500 tonnes have been found, identified and recommissioned. Where press tools have been lost or irrevocably modified, British Motor Heritage Limited has invested heavily in new press tools to enable production of the many body variants.

Original assembly jigs
– crucial to the build of any assembly or bodyshell are the manufacturing assembly jigs. Again, these have been found and recommissioned. They ensure the dimensional integrity of the bodyshell.

Original facilities
– a purpose built and dedicated assembly area is used for the manufacture of all bodyshells. To ensure the quality of weld is to the required standard, welding equipment identical to that used by major motor manufacturers is used.
"

Much of the original production facilities, tools and dies etc. is used. The missing remade and even then some body parts are unavailable because of the high costs to make press dies. Much easier when the new production is started by the original manufacterer. (Who apparently had kept almost all old equipment.)

But even then a new body (GT) in primer will cost 6.500 euro (9.000 USD) or painted 10.000 euro (15.000 USD). I think this is exclusive transport. Compare this to the price of a complete new car.

I think the Alfaholics guys did and always do an amazing job!
For the people who prefer originality, just buy an original car.....
For the people who like driving the best possible GT, just upgrade your car with
as many parts from the guys from Bristol You can afford, and the Fun factor will be extreme!!!
I know, because this is my car, and no it is not so beautifull as the Alfaholics Customer GTA replica but I love it!!
For me it is the ultimate way of driving an Alfa classic car :-)

I think our Dutch friends didn't understand the difference between the RHD & LHD production numbers of 105 series cars, not to mention the distance between Europe and Australia! I've had my 1750 for about 20 years now and in the last three or so years invested probably close to the 40,000 Euro figure in rebuilding the car and shipping it from Australia to the UK so that I can keep on enjoying it for another 20+ years. I know that I've overcapitalised in it, but I don't care as I've had it for so long and I don't intend to sell it, so the cost is irrelevant. Also having an old V12 Ferrari in the household I understand about sinking money into old Italian cars! I've been through the stage of not being able to afford to rebuild/maintain the cars properly, and now that I can afford to, I don't want to scrimp on it. I'm glad that the cars are being recognised for what they are and increasingly being sought by collectors & enthusiasts, but the LHD market is different to the RHD market for many reasons (most economics) at the moment.

Harking back to the original thread, kudos to the Banks for making the effort to build up cars to such a level. They have identified a market along with people such as Eagle for E-Type Jags, RS Williams (& the Aston factory) for Aston Martins etc etc and there will always be customers willing to pay for the 'ultimate' GTV/GTA or whatever. As long as they are clearly identified and accepted for what they are, then that's fine. People also have to accept and understand that they are not getting a new car, just a well developed old car. Frankly if you want ultimate track day performance at a much cheaper price, get an Elise or even an old Formula Ford and hone your driving skills more.

Hopefully some will get built in colours other than resale red though...

For every day use, I would live with this lovely alcantara dash, nice alloys... and the superb ride it promise. Next time I´ll visit Como perhaps choose an 8C instead.
BRAVO, Max!!
