regardless of how rare the cars are, we all have the FREEDOM to do whatever modifications, improvements or destruction we so desire to our own cars. some priceless and very rare cars have been bastardized too. bottomline, give everyone the freedom to do whatever they wish so as long as it does not offend anyone else. after all, it's our money, our time, our stupidity (as some may say). it's whatever makes one happy!
i for one won't probably be owning an alfa if i didn't have the freedom to modify it to suit my taste. i hate skinny tires!

this i think has gone way too far...

Hey benji you are a stirrer mate, Quote "I hate skinny tyres". Classic !! I think given my previous views on this aspect, let alone my comments re this actual thread I am going to leave it at this.

I guess the one thing I can say without risk of offending anyone (I hope ) is that whenever we get onto such topics it brings out the passion in us and our feelings for the beloved 105, and in a way perhaps this is not such a bad thing.

Now I just need to win this weeks Lotto so all my projects can be finished, with or without modification and I can get out and enjoy them before I kark it !

anybody want to trade my ultra-rare scalino for a mass-produced Daytona?

These cars are not sold on rarity alone but on passion and emotion. Why is a Berlina worth less than half its smaller and less useable cousin? You don't get that passion walking through museums and in reality ANY restored car is not original any more no matter how good the restoration.

Alfaholics is creating a passion for the cars. That will detract from some cars and add to others but it keeps the name Alfa Romeo impressed on people when they see or hear one of these beautiful creations going past on the road. That can only be a good thing.

I'd rather it being driven than being looked at or destroyed for parts. I have a feeling that if you spoke to the designers of the cars they'd probably feel the same way.

Agree. I was just killing the over used, but incorrect, argument that there is a never ending supply of these cars to do what we like with.

Oh and while I am breaking my own rules, regarding Alfa Romeo not been dead, they are and this is why companies like this are not hotting up the newer models ... they don't want to, the spirit has gone.

I think that cars like these produce a halo effect for all the less popular models and help save them. There's a load of interest in my car at race meetings - that HAS to be a good thing.

Psk & Joao - You cannot make blanket accusations and comments like you have on this post without knowing the facts! The car we are talking about was saved from a scrap yard by its owner, who bought it deliberately to bring to me to use as the project car. If he had not bought it, it would have been crushed for scrap metal value. Am I to assume that you would have preferred the car to have had an unloved death like that than saved and fully restored to the car it is today? Clearly none of these cars will be made from show cars, but cars which many of which would otherwise have been crushed for scrap.

ok...

Any one of these we save is a good deed. It's the same as saving a masterpiece painting. The word: parts car- doesn't exist in my vocabulary for these. You can make them replicas make them fly i don't care as long as they make it as they proudly did so many years.
Max and his guys are on the right track , the only business pushing forward always. I'm currently dreaming of new chasis...

Max,

My point was it encourages others to make difficult to reverse modifications. That is all. I would rather everybody thought that it was really, really, really, really hard to go down this path than dead easy ... so they would make smaller modifications. As you know it is really hard to find those trim pieces that are thrown away or otherwise lost in somebodies garage as they go modifying.

Also what is one persons scrap is anothers long restoration . I've heard this argument over and over in Ferrari circles ... it all just depends on how deep your pockets are.

Best ... and now I really do promise never to even look at this thread again .
Pete

In that case! I withdraw from the argument! I guess with share the same point of view.

I hope, as Pete pointed out, all the parts that were not used in the project will find their way to other cars.

Regards.

That's actually an incorrect statement. Autodelta in the UK "hot up" the brand new models in a very similar vein.

Was that 1284 Daytonas built in 1974 or over the entire production run. I count that around 24000 2000gtv were made.(couldnt find the calculator)
Big lotto draw tonight for $90,000,000. If my numbers come up my GT Junior is on the first cargo plane to Alfaholics.

As a variation on this theme I have a 76 GT junior that originally had the four light front. I have always preferred the look of the two lights with indicators mounted on the front of the wings but not so sure about the stepfront. When the front panel rust issues became too much to ignore I decided to create my own version and grafted on a fibreglass GTA front panel lower half with side indicators but retaining the bonnet and slight shark nose upper panel of the original. This car is a daily driver and certainly no concourse botherer but many people have commented that it looks right and often do a double take on first sight trying to work out the difference.
