I'm on my second car with these guys and I stopped by to just see this thing the other day (and to visit my car). I can tell you, Darron has had many ups and downs lately, health- (which is getting better), stress of the move to the new shop, Higering and firing of highly skilled people, the financial blow of the move. It really looked like for a short while that he was ready to call it quits! After a few drinks, jokes and light hearted conversations he seamed not so upset any more. The freedom to create this car and a few others seam to really make him happy. He has made it a point to not attended the BB anymore simply because he thinks he has nothing more to offer. I've tried to get him to come back, but that doesn't seam to be option.
As for this car, wow! The attention to the littlest of details is insane! Lots of stuff is not even on this thread. As for that heart, it is a lot more impressive in person. Looks very natural
Let me put it this way, I have observed the BB for three years now, and have never had a reason to chime in until now. That is how inspiring this build is.

Sorry, I've been working and not devoting the time for an update. Thanks for noticing. I'll do an update on Friday or early next week. Daron has been working on pretty bits, and Wes has started on the engine. So, there's stuff to show and tell about.

Thanks Bill. I've read this thread from the beginning, as I am planning something fairly similar to your build, but just on my '72 Guilia Super.

I'm with hagen111 - to my eyes, that grille is going to look weird. Hey, it's SkylineDriver's car, but I can't imagine executing this meticulous a GTA re-creation, and they installing a grille that looks like something you'd see on an ebay car.
Honestly, no offense meant - just my opinion.

I agree - this is getting way beyond my conservative Alfa tastes. Daron's probably done all he can to restrain it, but it's going down a slippery slope now. How much Carbon Fiber is in this car's future?

my point too, we discussed this with other gearheads.
All that stuff about nice aly panels, about having the rivets the right side up and what have you. Great period color, even if I wouldn't do so myself.
And then this. I say Yuck!
A car like this should really look otherwise stock GTA. If for one reason only: You just really can't better the design of a bumperless Scalino.
I know there are dozens of rep's out there. Yet mine is looking just like any other GTA. Which is fine with me because I don't have the need to compare with others. I just build my car for me.
Which is of course also an argument in favor of skyline drivers grille. But you get my drift.

I'm with this guy. I was really interested in this one, not so much now...
If it had been a replication of the GT/GT Veloce heart in polished alloy, that would have been very cool.

Do not criticise the cooking before the dinner is ready and tasted. I agree with you guys that the scudetto is the essential flavour on a Scalino and there are only two ways to go - the original or the artistic expression of the original.
They are following the artistic path and when you do that the risk to fail will always follow you.
Berlinista has the point, nothing beats a bumperless Scalino and to my taste is should be dark grey with a polished grill and scudetto.
But lets see what kind of face this baby has when it's nose and the rest of the car get painted.

And I think we will get pretty exited again when we hear about the engine development for this car...my guess is it will be pretty special.

yeah, well, I just have an opinion. And I'm willing to wait and see what happens.
But there are just two ways: Scalino 1300 overlapping grille, which is great but not GTA. And I for one wanted mine to look like a GTA, not like a modded Junior (which is what mine is) So, the other option, I adapted a Giulia grille heart.
Then again, to each his own!!!

This was always going to happen, and I hinted at this along time ago because this car is a SHOW car ... and 90% of Alfa owners are into functional things that make the GO. Yes the go will come, but even when all the good bits are added it's really for "look at all the cool bits" more than we are building a competitive race car.
I'm pretty sure the grill as it is will be cut off ... myself. You can't paint an Alfa grill ... looked horrible on the 145/155's too.
