Wrath of the faithful
Next we decided to incur the wrath of the purists. The car is to be a unique expression of the GTA spirit in an updated format. We didn't want to go red or white, so we searched and searched... and we decided.

Rear clip
Next, we moved to the rear clip of the car, fitting the rear wings and the tail-- aligning everything with the doors and the sill and the roof and the gap on the rear bonnet. The panels fit PERFECTLY again, and the frame was as straight as it could possibly be! Like a glove the first time!

Welding the rear clip
After fitting the parts together, Daron welded the rear wings to the tail.

Readying the engine bay for paint
We set aside the rear clip and turned our attention to the front. Before we put the front clip together, we wanted to paint the engine bay and front chassis. We scuffed things up a bit, primed it, and painted it with two coats of color and two coats of clear. Then, we put it in the oven and baked it until it turned into a pie...

Great job. Love the color. The color is almost exactly what I used for my GMC motorhome. We used a Cadillac color - it was Black Saphire and added copious amounts of pearl to make it pop. I think we used over 2 gallons on a 26 foot fiberglass and aluminum body.
And it got 4 coats of clear on top of 3 coats of color. Boy was that fun color sanding and by hand. And then buffing and polishing. But in the sun that Blue/Black color really pops.

Front end fitting
As sson as the paint dried, Daron carefully put the front wings on so he could line up the front valance. So, next week should see another round of B-I-G changes!

I like that color. Who cares if the color is not correct for the car, the car isn't correct for the car, but it is in fact bad a$$. It is unique, and there for the paint can be as well. I can't wait to see the finished product.

Put me down as a purist.
Daron must not have been very persuasive.
