Jay,
I have an August '65 build GT, all original, bought it from the first owner.
Soon after I bought it I was told that my car was a Frankenstein and I wondered if I'd been had: I had one-piece chromed steel bumpers front and rear; no side markers (the paint is original so I could tell there'd never been a hole); no rebreather from the carb cover to the valve cover and skinny 5mm Cavis plug wires.
Subsequent research seems to indicate that the early cars didn't have side marker lights, DID have one-piece chrome bumpers and did not have the rebreather, etc.
I thought I had discovered and documented a pattern and had been hoping to discover just when the side marker lights first showed up, late '65 I assumed. But your '66 and this '64 really mess up the theory!
So I'm not sure what's going on.
This '64 car was originally sold to Alfa in NJ, but I don't know if there was a difference between Europe vs USA cars back then. Mine was bought new from the Alfa distributor in Frankfurt then privately imported to the US by the first owner.
Are you sure yours is a '66? The DMV thinks mine is a '66 but it was built in Aug '65 (I think the DMVs were pretty inaccurate).
To further confuse the side marker light issue, I recently discovered that my original wiring harness HAD had wires for side marker lights but they were terminated near the front turn signal/parking light connector! So did the wiring harness anticipate side markers before the lights were actually used in production?
Surely there was some rhyme and reason, even with Alfa, since it involved the fender sheet metal. Were some fenders "holed" on the assembly line by hand? If so, why?
Guess we should take this to a new thread...
Chuck

Chuck,
I also have a July build 1965 which is the same spec as yours: no side markers (but with wiring for them), no holes in the fenders for them (the paint has been stripped), one piece bumpers front and rear, (although mine does have the valve breather to the carb cover). My car is also registered with the DMV as a '66, although I think this is something to do with the original sale date from the dealer.
I think there were differences between US and Euro specification, even by the mid-sixties. Seatbelts started to be required in certain markets at this time, and my car has the anchor points for 3-point belts installed but no belts (I will of course be putting some in when I redo the interior).
Hope this helps,
Antoni
PS: My engine has been rebuilt, and I believe that originally it would not have had the breather hose in place. A friend's original '65 does not have the breather hose, and I think these were added later.

Patrick,
Here's a '67 GTV I no longer own. The last picture depicts the condition I last saw her in. I believe she's been turned into a track car.

Guys, I think we're kind of drifting away from the original intent of this owner's list. These discussions, although very interesting and highly informative, deserve their own thread.

The short answer is that Alfa did not build cars in numerical order. One of the better examples of this is Montreal 1425245 built in 1971 and Montreal 1425244, one number lower, built six years later in 1977.

Pat,
Here's another early GT that appeared on Ebay, this one back in Sept 2008. VIN# AR605644.
From Alfa Centro:
"with reference to your request we are informing you as follows:
According to our documentation files, the chassis number AR 605644 originally corresponds to an Alfa Romeo Giulia Sprint GT (105.02), manufactured on the 28th July 1964 and sold on the 7th August 1964 to Alfa Romeo Inc. Newark, U.S.A. The body colour is Alfa red, with leather skai interiors."
The Ebay ad:
"This is a 1965 Alfa Romeo Giulia Sprint GT. It is a project. A total project. In and out. It has rust. Top and bottom. It needs everything. In and out. Top and bottom. It has been sitting for years. Maybe decades. Maybe centuries. Well, maybe not centuries. I got this , a couple 59/60 Spider 2000's and a 69 GTV 1750 from a shop in Phoenix which had them stuffed in their storage area. And I got to think they were stuffed somewhere else for many years before they got them here to Phoenix. Probably Illinois as that is where the titles are from. And based on the amount of garbage, crap, bags, weeds, sticks, leaves, old shoes,Jimmy Hoffa stuffed in the engine bays of these cars that we mucked out, they were homes to some pretty big rodents over the years. Think the good old 120 degree Arizona sunshine smoked those Illinois rats out years ago. So this car needs to be gone thru. But 1965 Alfa Romeos don't come down the the pike too often. I used to part cars like this out in a heartbeat. But lately I have seen the light. I would rather stash these old cars away at my storage yard in Phoenix till I get to them. Or find someone else who will do it. If you think 1965 Alfa GT's are dropping out of the sky these days like rain for a couple thousand bucks in tip top shape, you better cut back on the wacky tobaccy. This car will be a pretty good one to work with. Actually not too much serious rust. Has what I call course rust around the trim above the doors and below the rear window. One or 2 spots with rust thru, but otherwise just heavy rust. Driver's floor pan has some rust thru. Spare box not bad. Rockers OK. The interior is mostly there. Needs everything redone, though. The rear bumper is missing. The glass is good all around. The engine number is AR00514*62472.. I got to think it is the original engine. And I also got to think it will need to gone thru. As with the rest of the car. So if you think you are going to drive this car home, think again. In fact, if you get it up and running this year, I would be impressed. This car is not for everyone. It is actually not for most. Please, please do not bid if you are not familiar with dealing with these old cars. And do not comprehend what a car is like after sitting in storage for many, many years. I would rather keep it. Let me know if you have any questions or need any different pictures. I can arrange pretty reasonable shipping anywhere. And overseas shipping is no problem.Full payment must be received within 7 days of auction end. Storage till pick up is no problem."

Thought I better add mine to the registry too, but I noticed an interesting detail! Just checked out the link to the Google spreadsheet and noticed the entry for 299846, which according to the link, was purchased by Alec Mildren of Pymble on December 11, 1967 and was white with a black interior. Alec must have been a busy boy, as my car was also purchased by him!
Details are:
Chassis 299842
Type 105.37 (Giulia Sprint GT Veloce RHD)
Manufactured December 1 1967 and sold on December 6 to Alec Mildren (Pymble, Aus).
Originally Hawthorn white AR013 (as per 299846!), but with 'leather colour interior'.
The car was purchased in New South Wales and has a new home in Hobart, Tasmania with Sam Poynter. Currently red and undergoing a freshen-up

Perhaps Alec Mildren was the importer?
