Pat,
Your car looked great at the autoX on Sunday. I hope you continue to come out and run. I wish I had my GTV still. If you make it out this month, I'll do my best to get some pictures of you.

What suspension are going to stick under there? Get some race tires on the Panasports and you should have a pretty quick car. Oh yeah, a LSD rear end would be helpful as well.

I like the look of them. Just the right amount of vintage in there look. With bolsters. And they look like they could comfortably hold a larger frame.

Thanks,
Miguel,

I did ignore the seats up till now, as the P.O. put these in, and I had no idea what they were. I just looked them up online, and they're made by Procar by Scat, which carries a variety of interesting seats, along with their weight and dimensions. Mine are the Rally style:

Procar by Scat

I'm a skinny guy, so I'm still being tossed around in these seats, but those big bolsters really help in autocrosses, and the seats should hold a much larger driver with no problems. The P.O. mentioned that he loved these seats, and would get another set for his other cars.

I'll be installing a proper five-point harness racing seat in my car soon, so won't be needing these anymore in a few months' time. If you're interested in a used set, let me know (these are in good condition, with one little tear on the pass. side seat that an upholsterer should be able to sew back up in a matter of minutes). There's a big ol' zipper on the back of the seat back, so I'm guessing that one could also purchase a new seat cover from these guys and recover the seat chassis.

I enjoyed reading your thread, by the way... took me nearly an hour to get through it.

Hey Will, great seeing you there as well. The plan is to hit every UFO autocross this season, so you should see me there in March and thereafter.

I've got some kind of sport springs under there, and KYB shocks that'll come out pretty soon for either yellow Konis or Bilsteins. The Panasports will keep the Yokos for a while (the tires are old, and I'd like to use them up). I do have some vintage race tires (Hoosier Speesters) going onto a set of 15" Borranis, and those will be my road-race tires (and perhaps autocross as well).

Yup, need an LSD... guess you saw me spinning my inside rear wheel countless times on the course?

I am glad you enjoyed the read, I enjoyed writing it. This community here is great.

I checked out the link, thanks. I will end up doing something with my seats. I slide around in them too much. Let me know when you decide to pull them. Shipping from your side of the contry to my side might not make it worth it though

Keep the post coming I am looking forward to see your progress.

Regards,

After the third run at the autocross, I noticed that there was less power available, and the engine felt more hesitant on start-off. I ran the fourth/final run anyway, and actually beat my previous times!

As we'd just found a plugged fuel filter a week or so ago, I thought that the dirty tank may have plugged up the new filter again; on the other hand, it felt like the engine wasn't firing on all four cylinders. I didn't have time to look into this until today, when I found that one of the plug wires had actually come off of the distributor, and that was the source of the problem. After reconnecting, I noticed that the connection was pretty loose, so I'm going to need a new set of wires.

I also noticed some smoke coming out from under the car on startup, looked down, and some weld between the rear of the center muffler and the pipe had finally cracked - time for a new exhaust system.

I might as well restore the whole car! I wish I could.

At the autocross with two friends: a 1750 GTV and a 1600 124 Spider.

I've got an extra set of Hoosier Street TDs sitting here, 205/50/14 if you want them. I dont know if they have much life left, but they might. They are a bias ply race tire, and can be really fast assuming they aren't heat cycled out. They are really light and kinda fun to race on.

What, free?! Can you bring one to the March autocross? My Yokos still have about 50% life left, and I might just slap on your TDs after that. I'm running 205/60/14s.

I'll load them up and bring them down. Just remind me. I have no idea how much life they have left, they feel a little hard, but that might just be from sitting. I pulled them out of the used tire pile at Sears Point last fall. I mounted one set to my Panasports for the Datsun, but I also have a set of RA1s that can go back on the wheels later. I'm planning on buying fresh race tires for my other set of race wheels so I don't need this set of TDs.

My landlady will be thrilled they are going away.

Boy that's dark. Is it dark green?

On another note, after trailering up the Sprint to get some undercoat on for its new owner, I stopped my mechanic's to have a look at some goodies that just came in: the fuel cell, roll bar, and a pair of racing cams.

The fuel cell is by ATL, which I ordered from Summit Racing. It's 12 gallons in capacity, and will fit perfectly in the spare wheel well.

The roll bar is made by Autopower (based out of San Diego), to specifically fit a GTV; it comes with two cross braces, both of which are detachable.

The cams are race-spec, but should be alright for light road-use. What are they? What's the lift and duration? It's all a big secret, girls... watch out, Rimicci!

We pretty much have all the parts needed for the race engine build, except for some head-work: valves, porting, etc. While that's being done, we'll be installing the roll bar and the fuel cell at our next shop appointment, 4/21 A long ways away, unfortunately, as I'm going to be busy with all kinds of things in the next few weekends, one of which is the Giro Giulietta - and that's not bad at all.

Here's a better photo of my car's original color: Azzurro Spazio (AR 504). This and my car both had the same paint sprayed over the undercoating.

And more than a month later... some progress. It's getting more difficult now to find open days to go work at my mechanic's, so the progress suffers; we'll get there, though.

We spent most of the day shooting the breeze with whoever dropped by, AND cutting out the spare tire well "hump", and installing this aluminum sheet cut-out. It ain't purty, but gets the job done. The 12-gal. fuel cell is an inch taller than the trunk floor when sitting in the well, but we're having a metal shop fabricate a cover for the entire get-up, and you'll see that installed next time.

We dry-fitted the Autopower roll bar, but the two wheel well supports are angled incorrectly (too narrow) so that the welded plates don't sit flush on the wheel well humps. So we're considering pushing the support bars outwards (toward sides of the car) using some contraption (privy only to my mechanic) to sufficiently bend them for a a good fit.

All I really want right now is to get rid of the standard gas tank so that I wouldn't have to mess with that crazy tank neck every time I refuel! It's extremely frustrating - some pumps like the neck, and some will have nothing to do with it (try the station across the street, buddy)! GTV owners should all know what I'm yammering about.
