$125,000 Giulietta Monoposto Race Car?
I know they are rare but, are things really worth this much?

I say:
Why not? If Mustangs and Dodges can bring 100 big ones at the BJ auction, why should a Milee ready and eligible Giulietta not be?
I think after having watched a couple of hours of Barrett Jackson, that ALL our Alfas, especially Giuliettas are WAAAAY undervalued.
But I suppose, that's good for you, and me, because we can afford them right now (except for that racer, I don't have that kind of dough )

Of course the only way to find out is to see if it sells. If my memory is correct, there were only 32 750 Spider Veloces made in 1957. And who knows how many of these were lightweight monopostos? Very few certainly. Personally, I'd rather have an SZ/TZ if I had that kind of money!

The ad is correct; there were only 24 lightweights ever made; some in 1956 and some in 1957. One of Keith Goring;'s mechanics has one that he found here in Los Angeles, and beat me to by one day. It is S/N 0047. Another one is the 1956 Sanesi Mille Miglia car, which is pictured in many books, and is S/N 0051. This car was in the basement of the Alfa Museum some time ago.
If this car is original and not modified, the $125,000 is not outrageous. About 6 or 7 years ago, one of the Bertone bodied Giulietta spider prototypes (the red one) sold for $175,000.
You can find a round tail SZ for that kind of money, but not a long tail SZ. A real and correct TZ is now $300,000 or more!

This was about 10 years ago. I can't think of the guy's name who had it, but it was in the west valley, not more than 5 miles from your dad's shop. The guy is not really an Alfa guy, but has been buying and selling cars for years. I found out about it a day after it had been sold. The nose was bashed in, but the car was 98% complete, and good enough to drive all the way from Ca to Ct!
