BMW Polaris wheel Color

I know about BMW Polaris Silver being as close to original as possible ... and yes I have the color code. I had some paint mixed using the preferred Glasiut brand and had a sample painted. To me it's looks slightly grey compared to modern silvers. I usually tend to want things original as possible, but am just wandering if it's going to look right.

To everyone who has painted their wheels Polaris Silver .... does it look good?

Don't know the answer to your question but do know from restoring BMW 1600/2002 there were at least five different variations/codes from the BMW factory for Polaris. Search the web and you can see the chips/codes.

Slightly grey silver is what you're looking to match. You don't want today's super bright silver with fine metallic particles. At the risk of dragging this old subject into daylight again; you can match the color but not the original paint particle size or pattern. Polaris silver is likely to be as close a substitute for the original wheel color as is possible with today's coatings.

It looks great from my house!

Maybe I wasn't clear, I am not asking if it looks original or not (as I know this is been completely covered), am I asking if it looks good? I'm thinking that perhaps a brighter more modern silver might look better accepting that it would deviate from originality.

Thanks for any and all reply's,

Hi Tom

GTD is spot-on, if you paint a modern bright silver on the wheel, you totally lose the effect of the chrome hubcap, whereas the slightly greyer silver has the effect of making the hubcap stand out.

I use a "fine silver" which is the colour we use for vintage wire wheels & is a grey / silver & looks fantastic on my cars.

Ciao
Greig
