Tires Giulia Spider 101.23
Need to buy tires for my Giulia.
I know that quite a few people here recommend VREDESTEIN.
Any other recommendations?

Hi AV,
as I am in Europe (Germany) too I thought I would reply to your question.
There is a choice, but if you compare the prices, there is no competition!
In a 155 SR 15 size a Vredestein costs 51 Euros each (delivered to my door!)
An Avon GR6 costs 188 Euros
A Michelin XAS FF (a very good tyre) costs 195 Euros each.
There is also a Toyo 310 which is only 37 Euros, but who wants a Korean tyre on an italian classic?
So my money would be on the Vredesteins........
Ciao
Nick

Using Continental Contac pro
175/65/15
Very good in wet or dry, and many of today's tires are unbelievably better than the best I used 40 years ago on a 101 Spider.
The tire was designed for the first version of the new Mini Coopers and for some reason has a "vintage" look.

The Vredestein 165-14s on my Super are the best tires I've ever had.

A V and other alfisti,
try this one: Pirelli Cinturato Tyres, mentioned on 750-101 yahoo group (Pirelli Cinturato 155SR15 for £89/tire from England))

Tire Rack carries B F Goodrich Radial T/A's in the 155/15 size for about $70 each. I have a set on my '65 Giulia Spider Veloce, and can vouch for their great ride, low noise, and impressive traction. But as I've learned many times in the past, odd parts, like these tires, will NOT remain available for long. So, act fast, and consider ordering a few spares while you can get them.

Vred's work well in normal conditions. I had them on my Sprint Veloce weekend before last for the Snowball rally and found them the weak link when driving really hard on back roads. Of course my set is getting close to 8 years old...

Alfa Soon had written: "Of course my set is getting close to 8 years old..."
EIGHT YEARS OLD! Replace those babies - sushi lasts longer than tires, and 8 years is too long, regardless of tread depth. Tires become hard with age, and their coefficient of friction drops.
I vote for Vredestein too. BF Goodyear (or is it Goodrich?) also makes a 155X15, though I like using European tires on my European cars. Beyond those two, I think the only other choice is vintage Pirelli for about 5X the price of the Vreds/Goodwhatevers.

Have a look at Firestone F560 155x15
I've had them on my car for some years now. Great tire!
All the best,
Jerone

"alfazagato" Stuart drives his Vredesteins quite hard on our CA roads in his Spider; I believe he's rather happy with them.
