Giulietta Day 2008/AKA Giulietta Jaunt

For "Giulietta Day 2008", rather than get out and drive for 200+ miles of twisties in five hours, immensely tiring ourselves as in past Jaunts, we will instead hold a “car show” during the first part of the morning, then go on a leisurely 2-hour drive to a lunch spot on the Coast, calling it a day. We're not as young as we used to be, I’ve been cautioned.

Having a car show gives us a chance to slowly rouse from our slumbers Sunday morning, slurp coffee, gawk at other people's cars, and finally decide that one's own is still better screwed together. All joking aside, it's a great way for local Giuliettisti to become better acquainted with each other, and to hopefully receive/offer advice on all matters Giulietta. We also welcome folks from outside the Bay Area to attend, of course.

This will be followed by a 2-hour jaunt on local roads of interest to exercise the cars and our biceps, and to give the drivers/navigators a semblance of a tan - characteristic of the California gentleman/lady Italian sports car driver.

The last stop will be lunch break at a cafe/deli of my spontaneous choice on the Coast, before we head home northward through parts of Soquel and Los Gatos.

Please note that this is a "Giulietta" event, and only such cars are invited to attend; specifically, all 750 and 101 Alfas are welcomed, from concourse winners to rust buckets that are able to cover ground under their own power, however slowly.

Here are the specifics of the event:

Giulietta Day 2008
Date: Sunday, 5/18/2008

Car Show: 9:00 am - 11:00 am
Location: Santana Row's South-end Parking Lot in San Jose.

Quick Jaunt: 11:00 am - 1:00 pm
Route: San Jose - Morgan Hill - Gilroy - Watsonville - Aptos - Los Gatos

Lunch: 1:00 pm to whenever you've had enough
Location: Aptos or Capitola

For maps and additional information on this event, please go to its website by clicking HERE.

If you plan to attend, please e-mail or PM me so that I can add you to my mailing list. Thank you.

It was quite a bit of fun. I'm sure it'll be the same this time around.

For folks who don't have time to go on the drive with us, you're welcomed to stop by for the car show portion at Santana Row.

No worries, Stuart. We'll in fact still have a strong black Spider contingent, with Dan Rhodes joining us again in his black Spider - 2.0L motor in it, does it? As I recall, yours is the only stock car of the three "black musketeers".

I'll see you most likely in the fall, unless you'll be at the Concorso Italiano/Monterey weekend.

If I don't start tearing out the wiring on the SV it looks like I will make it to the show but I don't think I can do the drive and lunch as I have other stuff to catch up on.

Good 'nuff, Matt!

I'm really crossing my fingers hoping for enough parking space! Including Matt, there are now 8 Giuliettas signed up for the show.

Sean, please stop by if you have time and are interested in the older cars.

Hello Folks!

The big day's tomorrow. If you can't do the run, but have some time in the morning, feel free to stop by and gawk-and-chat! We'll be there starting 9 AM, and leaving at around 10:30 AM or so. We should have about 7 Giuliettas showing up - four Sprints and three Spiders.

I'll post photos here after the run.

Is That A Volvo in my Mirror?

Stuart and all who've been following this thread, we did indeed have a wonderful drive!

Marvin and I arrived at Santana Row in his silver Spider and my red Subie at 9 AM, and were soon joined by Steve (ste10105) in his red Sprint. Soon after arrived Tom Sahines and friend in Tom's red Spider. I forget who else then followed suit, but in all, we had 9 Giuliettas, with 8 going on the drive (Steve had to sit this one out). It would've been 11 Giuliettas if Morgan Adis and I had gotten our acts together and brought our Giuliettas, instead, we both drove Subarus! This has been the best attendance yet, and we look forward to an even larger Giulietta turnout for the fall run.

Being the lead car meant I could not turn my neck around to shoot photos of the car bombing down the twisties, so I only have photos shot at the starting point in Santana Row. Hopefully someone will send me more photos to post here.

Participating BB members (all in Sprints):

Matt (alfa soon)
Steve (ste10105)
Reid (Italiar79)
