Engine & Rear Trunk Hinges

My Giulia engine hood and rear trunk hinges are badly pitted and not in a condition to be plated.

Is there any thing that can be done, any product that can be used to fill in the pits to provide a smooth basis for the plating?

Any help would be really appreciated.

Any good plater should be able to fill in the holes with weld and polish down the surface, but this will cost money. If you can do something yourself, all the better! Try these products:

Caswell Solder-It

Muggy Weld

Never used either but the results look good.

What car?

Mine (Spider) looks like Mazak. Basically Zink. And you can't weld that.

Mine have a good shape, but sloppy. So I may cast new.
I have a friend that is a goldsmith/designer. He knows enough about investment casting to help me make wax models that I can use to cast new ones. It will not be soon, but if you can't find any good ones, keep yelling next winter. I have enough Mazak to cast a lot of them. When the rubber model is made it can be used to make a lot of wax patterns.

This is a job for a professional! Not just a plater, but a restorer. I had mine done by a guy who drills out all the pits and fills them with silver solder and painstakingly sands and polishes them. Then, multiple platings of copper, sanded in between. When perfect, they are nickle plated, then plated with hexa-valent chrome. They look like jewelry when finished! NOT CHEAP! But concours quality.

So, what do you want? Passable home grown repairs or professionally perfect?

Classicalfa has replacement hinges which were cheaper than replating in the UK.
