Convertible top Question
Greetings,
I am a long time car nut, just got my first Giulietta Spider, it's a '62.
The car has been idle for a few years, and I am having trouble lowering the top. I have loosened the header latches , but it does not seem to want to go very far back, or down. Is there a trick, or do the pivots just need more penetrant?
Also will need a new top, any recommendation for a supplier, I am in N Cal.
Thanks for entertaining my embarrassing newbie question
Alan

Got it
Got it, still open to recommendations on a source for a top.

You found the latch things--that's a plus.
I bought mine in November, 2006 and although I had had one decades ago I could not recall the latches . Had to go through the driver's instruction book.
And then Eureka!
Welcome to the BB

Welcome to the AlfaBB!
So you have a 62 Giulietta Spider; have you confirmed that it's a 62 by contacting Archivio Storico? If not, ask for the build date: SERVICES@ALFAROMEOAS.IT
This is important as yours could be a transition car with a mix of parts from different series.
There were at least three variations of Spider top frames used on 750/101 Spiders so you want to determine exactly what you have before purchasing a new soft-top.
Pictures are always appreciated on the AlfaBB.
While there are many suppliers of new soft-tops, all will require some fitting and fooling with to result in a proper funtioning top. Use the SEARCH feature to find previous threads.

So aside from 750 tops, what were the differences made to the 1o1 series tops. I have seen some 101 series that were bolted directly to the back deck. I have a 1960 Giulietta that I am about to order a Robbins top for. What style should I order? Please see the photo of my frame.
Cheers,
George

I think that there is only two things that you need to consider when ordering a top. At least this applies when ordering a top from world upholstery. First is whether you have a long or short wheelbase car. I think that you have a long wheelbase car, so that issue is known. The next item is how the top meets up with the back bow. From what I know, there is the type where the straps are sewn into a metal loop (which is what my car has). There there is a type where the straps are riveted to the back bow. I think this is more common for the later or 101 cars.
If in doubt, take a look at world upholstry's website. If still in doubt, just give them a call. It is their livelyhood to know what you need, and so they would be able to help you sort out the details.
Cheers,
Jon

Leave it to a guy with 1300 posts to say "search the archives"
Thank you guys for all the replies. I know zip about this car, except that it is a great driver. I know there are many permutations, and running changes, I was so excited about the car, I didn't want to log any time on the computer.
This Alfa was part of a 3 car package with a Fiat 500 and Bristol 401!! So I have my hands full. When I catch up, I will search this great forum and figure out exactly what I have.
Thanks again, Alan

Instructions and/or tips on replacing a 101 convertible top?
I have replaced a couple of tops on the later 105/115 spiders, but I had the advantage of having the factory manual. Are there any step-by-step instructions on replacing a giulietta top? Unfortunately, all I got with my project was the frame with the top already removed and tossed. I have the frame re-installed after getting it powder and fitting pretty well with new wood on the header. Now I'm stuck. Any suggestions out there?
