Help with Altissimo tail light restoration

I currently have an alloy tail light assembly on my restored Veloce, but it is not correct. I just purchased a pair of very nice Altissimo tail light lenses and now can rechrome the housings that fits them. The problem is I have one broken plastic bulb contact that screws to the back of the housing (please see photos).

I need one of the single bulb contacts as shown in the photo. Does someone have this one little part from maybe a wrecked unit? Part # is22714.10.

Help, help!!

George

I'm pretty sure I saw some of these laying around at Re-Originals recently. Try a call to Matt. Bruce

I don't think I can afford his prices. He thinks everything is worth Ferrari prices.
I didn't know Mat had small pieces like this. I'm not looking for the whole assembly just the one plastic bulb contact piece.

It sounds like you have no idea what is envolved in finding these old parts. Matt works long hours tracking this stuff down. He has overhead and employees. It's really unfair for you to make comments like that.

Ditto that Osso. I buy both "irregualr" and even regular stuff from him just to help support his business. Who else would part with one rubber mat out of a set. Not the bigger guys. His stuff is always the highest quality and well researched for quality and originaliness. He does research for much of the unavailable stuff. I've asked him to work on sourcing the 68-70 Carello amber side marker lights. Any interest there?? He's a lifesaver and a real help to the community. Oh, and he does sell stuff to Ferrari owners.

He has been working on those side marker lights for as long as I've known him. I think he has a very long waiting list. Yolanda at Aftermarket Reproductions used to make the lenses. I think someone on the BB (Rossano, aka 1750GT) called her a while back. She informed him she wasn't making them anymore. Maybe if there is enough demand, she might start making them again.

These lights seem to come up on ebay; I got a decent one recently for a bargain price. Maybe wait for a mechanically good/cosmetically poor one the concours folks will not bid on, to use as a parts light at a decent price?

They always seem to be either decent red ones or really faded amber ones. I bought some of these faded ones . . . . once. Couldn't really tell form the 50,000' photo. I'd trade two good red ones for one good yellow one (OBO). Bruce

ossodiseppia,

Don't get your shorts in a wad. Actually I have a very good idea what's involved in sourcing old parts. You have no idea of my background! My point wasn't to upset anyone. I didn't mind mind paying fair prices. But when I have to lay out deposits for back ordered items that haven't even been produced yet and then receive items at twice the quoted price and half the described quality -- no names mentioned here but it has happened more than once and with more than one business -- then I will look elsewhere.

Now back to the subject -- this is the thread for Giulietta & Giulia (1954-65) right? I wasn't asking about 1750 Spider Veloces or Berlinas or VW Jettas or faded lenses but Giulietta Altissimo plastic bulb contact pieces. If anyone has something to contribute to this subject than I would appreciate it.

Thanks Andrew, I will continue to look on eBay for the bits I need. good suggestion. The problem is I have been looking for some time now without any luck. I don't need a complete pair for just the little broken piece.

I understand. Just saying the one I got as a spare for my Giulietta is as good as the ones on the car, and cost like $20. I'd pay that for the piece needed alone.

That's a great deal. I would be glad to pay that.

This is what I would do faced with this dilemma. File the broken bit down to the level of the surround. Turn a lipped and grooved annulus on the lathe, in nylon (any non-conducting plastic really) and cut a segment out appropriate to a portion of the top of the plastic bulb holder. Drill a hole in the flange on the rear. 3M bond into place with the bolt holding things together. File, adjust so that the lugs of the bulb slide into place.
How long it will last....depends on your ability and the glue!

Thanks Stuart, Actually I don't have any broken bits worth working with. I will end up making one if I can't find an original one. Not too hard to fabricate with a block of plastic. Just more time...
