since it is not making noise it may have unscrewed itself from the front cover. the cable hooks up pretty close to the timing pointer.

Revolution counter drive

Hi Elad

Could be one of a few things:

Cable has come loose at the ends - either behind the rev counter or at the water pump drive.

The inner cable ends are "square" and occasionally the edges round off & you loose drive to the inner cable.

The inner cable eventually frays & breaks off.

It's an easy job to sort out, but will require some grimbling under the dash & around the water pump.............but then you've had some practice of late, grimbling under the dash of your SS ...

It's a good idea to put a bit of lubrication into these cables, a light lithium based grease is usually sufficient.

Shout if you need more help

Cheers
Greig

I don't have any help to offer on the tach; however, if yours was the black SS in the Italian car corral, you were parked a couple of cars away from me. Lovely car, I was admiring it and hoping I'd run into you. For my money the prettiest production car Alfa ever built.

thanks (although i did not design the car), it is the car in question... the drive up route 7 was amazing but the tech thing really pisses me off.

car has been ultra reliable ever since i bought it about 6 months ago and 2000 miles.

re the hood, i did open it but only after cutting a 1 inch hole in the firewall...
now i can go ahead and fix the tech. can anyone tell me where exactly i can find teh tech cable driven off the engine?

Tach / rev counter cable drives off the bottom LHS of the water pump, in the front of the motor.

It's a bear to get in there, with the steering box & the generator, but can be done, with a little patience.

Be careful when re-fitting, it's easy to cross thread that large aluminium nut as it has a fairly fine thread.

Cheers
