Is This Original Alfa Color?

Hello all,

I came across a Giulia Sprint 1300 (circa 1964 maybe) for sale, which is in pale yellow. As you can see, picture of the engine bay shows the same color as the exterior and I am wondering if this color was offered when this car was new.

Thank you in advance,

Not sure about the color question but nice car! Are you going to purchase it? What is the asking price?

Hi Tiger,

You may want to PM BB member "tubut"... He's pretty knowledgeable on colors and has a couple of threads that don't cover this year, but you may find interesting: Last, I wonder if the owner would consider sending the VIN to archiviostorico to get a definitive answer?

Best regards,

Richard,

No, I have no plan of purchasing it. Seems to be a decent restoration candidate, but 12,000 Euros sound bit too expensive. The only reason I wanted to know if this is an original Alfa color this car left Portello with, is that my mother owns a '63 Giulia Sprint in a similar color (well, this particular car was white when it was new) and she really loves the color. The car may need a repaint soon and we'd feel better keeping the car in this color if it was actually offered back then.

Enrique,

Thanks, I did look at his sticky thread about the color chart but I did not think about PM'ing him regarding this.

P.S. I do not have the VIN so I cannot ask archiviostrico if this is the car's original color. I guess I can ask them if any kind of pale yellow was offrred back then.

Thank you again,

Tiger,
I would e-mail the seller to ask if he could verify with archiviostorico, or tell you the VIN so that you may verify... Your explanation about why you are interested should allow the seller to understand your motive... Of course, I'm basing this on my experience with Alfa owners always been very helpful.

Best regards,
Enrique

There was a recent thread about sprint colors from a 1959 color chart you might want to look at. This looks to me a factory color. I would like to see a restored sprint coupe in this color as it would most likely be a very rare color. The color is Giallo Cina. Search for the thread "1959 101 Color Chart".

In my opinion, most sprint coupes are red, white, blue, or gray. Seldom do you see a sprint coupe in yellow, green, brown or black.

Thank you again to all who responded. I just looked at the thread regarding the 1959 color chart (thank you Enrique and Christopher for steering me to the thread), and found this picture there. The car seems to be the Giulietta Sprint (late 750 or 101, normale or veloce I cannot tell from it) and according to what Greig (AlfistiSA) says, the color is called Giallo Cina (China yellow) so it is probable that this color was offered for the Sprint. The color on the Giulia Sprint 1300 I found on ebay.it seems to be bit darker, but it could simply be due to lighting and dust on the car. It is nonetheless pretty color to have on a Sprint and we are now definitely sure that we'll keep my mother's Giulia Sprint in the current yellow.

Thank you again,
