See Terry! It all came together and looks great! BTW my fingers are metric, but thumbs are SAE . Now... are you going to make these available to us with real, factory paint, or only repaints? (You obviously received my measurements right?) Has McCabes contacted you as yet about the mix? I can call Irene monday, or e-mail her threatening notes anytime. She and her boss, Skip, need to take a look at this thread and get the message that this is a VERY popular color, and an exact formula is needed by others!
P.S. The fingers with the steel rule are my son, John's. All metric . Gordon Raymond

Gordon,
Thanks for your help. They will be available to all who need them, once I have the process fine tuned. I have the capability of doing other colors also, as long as I am provided the names and codes.
I'll need the color formula and spray out from your guy soon. We're getting close...

Looks absolutely great Terry!
I've attached a picture of the decal from my '69 spider. The background looks a little yellowish, but I believe that is just from age. Any chance you could whip one up with the lettering on two lines like this one?
I would very much like to have one of your decals and will gladly pay you for it.
Thanks,
Jeff

Colors and stickers (decals)
Chris,
I didn't see any discussion of the Montecatini paints in your article. Their numbers seem to be different from the AR numbers or K numbers. Not that anything Alfa could be confusing....
I think I got the spacing right on that two line Rosso sticker for Jeff.

Terry, Let me add some more to the discussion. There are/were several suppliers to Alfa Romeo for paints...Glasurite, Dupont, Montecatini, Max Meyer, etc. AR probably bought paint in 50 gallon barrels in batch runs so the paints would all match. I wouldn't have the faintest idea how the match was made to AR paint specifications. You can venture that if AR wanted a paint code batch run, it was most likely put on a bid. Love those stickers, I will be needing one in Grigio for my 65 Veloce.

Terry,
I would like to get a "2-liner" for my '69 spider also. Mine has long disappeared.
Happy to pay also.
Thanks,
Marc

Have an Anomaly with that Montecatini Rosso?
I noted all the Montecatini Rosso 95-C-9068's posted. What about us 69 Rosso 95-C-9614's? Some of us were camping on this topic in another thread (2nd page) and were denied and rejected over to here (Rosso refugees).
My 1969 Spider paint sticker is intact and is the color on the dash and in the trunk. The body received a cheap Alfa dealer repaint which is quite close nonetheless but just a hair "orangier" (may be a bit sun faded). I did the engine bay (out) when the engine was out for a rebuild. The 9614 has a bit more yellow in the mix to make it just a bit more orangish-red than the color chart Alfa red. I mixed some Testor's touch-up paint and it was about 15% Yellow and 85% Red (not very precise).
More recently I had a Sherwin Williams color match to mix and can some spray paint for some miscellaneous urban renewal. It is very close to the OE color which is a tad more red than the repaint. See color in photos in my Signature. I can't seem to find any cross reference from the DUCO stickers codes to Alfa's color chart codes. What Alfa code would this be and what cross reference???
Just to add to the Rosso confusion. Bruce

Welcome Rosso Refugee #1,
It will be interesting to see if any of the long time Alfa guys have seen this number. I think that comprehensive color charts and a reliable cross-reference to modern colors and formulations is wishful thinking; I don't think it will happen.

Italian colors
Hi Terry,
This is very interesting. First of all, Italy it known for it's ART (think COLOR). Then cars, food and wine etc.
I have owned a Ferrari 275 GTB (1965) sn 06943 for 37 years. Unlike my Alfa, it has been restored twice now. On the first restoration 35+years ago, we discovered it had been repainted 5 or 6 times by 1971! All different shades of red, all here in the US. It was however NO PROBLEM to locate, and duplicate the original 1965 red. Ferrari used the Italian version of GM's Magic Mirror Acrylic Lacquer. Though Ferrari has used many different red's over the years, the formula's still exist in the very latest paint formulations, AND can be cross referenced, despite the changes in the actual type of paint . I cannot imagine why this is not true, as well, for the DUCO, Alfa formula, but as you know, my world class Ferrari restoration paint man, can only duplicate my Alfa red for you by TRIAL AND ERROR, creating a formula.
Seems we need "Our man in Italy", whoever that might be, to talk to Fiat, and find out.... WHY?

I don't think Alphonso made his own sticker or nabbed one from the Ferrari shop, but maybe . . . I've always called the color of mine casually "Ferrari red". Wishful thinking . . . .
