Mystery Roll Bar

This roll bar came with my Spider, but I have no need of it.

The sticker say "Race Elkhart Lake ENTRANT, Sept 26, 1992.

Does anyone have an idea what this might have been installed in?

Thanks,

Ray

It could be from a 105 spider. Is this is where you obtained it? Did it come installed?

The bar has a diagonal brace and shoulder strap bar (shoulder harness straps in race cars can't be run down to the package shelf, but must be directed more straight back). Maybe put it back in the car and see if it's too tall to erect the top. Roll bars must be equal to or taller than the driver's helmet and a 105 Spider top will not clear such a bar. Race cars now need cages but, back in the days of Showroom Stock classes, roll bars only were allowed and Alfa Spiders were popular in this class.

AROC time trials still allow roll bars instead of roll cages, so your bar would be valuable to someone wanting to run TT events with a 105 Spider

George,

Thanks for the information.

The roll bar came with, though not installed in, my 64 Giulia Spider.

With the sticker dated 1992, I certain that many things have changed in the last 25 years.

We have a lot of members who do, or did, race Alfa Spiders or other such sport cars; maybe one of them participated in this race.

ATB,

Ray

Olaf,

It does look very similar, though I am not certain how tall it would be once installed.

I've seen some bars in street cars that looked way too low to do much good in the event of a rollover!
