Giulia Spider Factory Hardtop

Hello:
I am looking for an factory made hardtop for my 1965 Giulia Spider. Does anyone know about after market tops? I have been told that the Alfa factory hard tops are of better quality. Any help or information is appreciated.
Thanks,
Brian Cooper

PF hardtops.

Hi Brian,
There are several variations in the OEM steel Alfa factory tops. The one you need is of the very last series. I looked for mine for 15+ years, and I've owned the car from new! Perhaps you will have better luck. The last of the PF tops did not have the Sn. tag in the back inside, or the rear hooks. They did hook under the trunk hinge hooks, and fasten in front with hooks like the soft top. My top was bought new by the owner of a '64 in late '65. It did not fit his car so he never used it. From other threads on the BB, apparently the tops that did come with cars were selected for fit, as dimensions seem to vary a bit. Mine needed only slight alterations to fit my car. Fortunately, my body man, Skip McCabe, has spent years fitting 250 Ferrari PF tops to 250's (they didn't interchange either!) and he knew the tricks. I do not know where to advise looking. Too few tops, too many buyers. I wonder if anyone will reproduce these so they look like the originals? The after market tops, grouped together, do not look like the originals.

Hard Tops

There was at least one earlier thread on this topic, at
Pininfarina Hard top?

I thought the factory (Pininfarina) HT was more rounded than the one in Gordon's picture. I have an OEM Fiberglass hardtop (in red with beige headliner) that look like the one in Gordon's picture. I'd like to get rid of it, now that I've got a Sprint (not that I'd drive it on rainy days either).

Hello Gordon:
Thanks for information. Great looking car (cars) in the photo. I agree - I will need to find the later series. My 1965 car did not sell until mid 1966. The end of the Giulia spiders and the introduction of the Duetto. I will keep looking, I will not start the restoration of the car until this Fall. I am just finishing a 71 Montreal that has taken about 3 years to complete.
Thanks,
Brian

Hello Jeffery:
Thanks for the link. Do you have any pics of your hardtop? As Gordon mentioned, I will need one of the last hardtop series manufactured. I am not sure what the serial number of the last Giulia Veloce produced is, but I think mine is close to the end of production as it did not sell until mid 1966. I am located in CT near RI.
Thanks,
Brian

Brian,
Check Patrick Hung's post on the serial numbers of these cars. You can see where yours is in the manufacturing process. A solutin might be Jeffrey's top, mine is steel, I am not aware any from PF were fiberglass, but if his matches the profile of the late ones like mine, and is fiberglass, it will be easier to fit as fiberglass is more easily repaired / altered than steel. By the way, the Sn of my car is 390778, with engine # 02290. It is listed on several Giulia registers. I bought it new in early January of 1966, and it is titled as a '66. Gordon Raymond
