Giulietta steel wheels

Newby here currently restoring a 1958 Spider Veloce. NE one know which steel wheels are correct for this car - Fergat or Borrani? And which ones have the oval holes and which one have the triangular holes? Thanks all.

750 Giulietta Veloce's could have come with either Fergat(D-shaped holes) or Borrani(oval holes) wheels. Borranis are favored by most owners and are thought to have been more frequently used on Veloce's. But either is correct for your car. Dave Brohan in Chicago

In my experience Dave is correct. The Fergat were also used on most earlier cars, the Borrani appearing more commonly, later with the Giulia's. Over the years, these have all been shuffled around. You will discover the Borrani's to be lighter in weight than Fergat's. Not much, but enough that the rim is more easily damaged on the Borrani if a pothole is bumped. Also the spyder, (Center with the 4 holes) is more easily twisted with Borrani's. There are a lot of steel wheel straighteners listed in Hemmings, that can repair these perfectly. I have about a half dozen collected to be repaired and refinished. Gordon Raymond

Gordon, I could be off on this as my cars both have Fergats, but it was my understanding that the Borrani's were considered to be stronger. I have been told they are preferred by vintage racers for this reason. They certainly bring more $ on ebay than the Fergats.

I recently bought a set of Borranis for my Sprint racer; these are rumored to NOT collapse as easily as Fergats on the track, where potholes are relatively scarce, thank goodness.

You both may be correct, with the Borranis, I was able to bend the spyders on the track, over time, without hitting anything. Fronts went first. This was MANY years ago. It was my understanding Borrannis were preferred for less unsprung weight being lighter than the Fergats. This was the days before alloys were available except for the unobtainable (at the time) TZ alloys. Many of us switched to MiniLites if we could, available in widths to fit Giulietta / Giulia's. Hi Guys
I can tell straight away. Borrani is what you need with modern rubber.
Back in the 70s I broke the center out of 3 Fergats with just CN36s In 1 day of testing good clean Calif. wheels. Oval Holes are your safest bet between the 2.

Unhappy Broken, not bent.

I think PSB may have the TRUTH here. While the Borrani's may bend at the spider when stressed beyond the limits of old 155/165 x 15 Pirelli's, say with CN36's or even more adhesive rubber, the Fergat's BROKE!! Maybe that's why I collect the Borrani's?
Most of my experience with these wheels on the track was 40+ years ago with much less adhesive rubber. I never broke a Fergat as everyone used the Borrani's. They probably knew something even back then. Just my opinion. Gordon Raymond
