Giulietta/Giulia Spider Register

Why just have a Sprint register? Every Giulietta/Giulia should have a register to come home to. So here it is, a 750/101 Spider register.

(For the truly serious enthusiast, Christopher Boles maintains various registers that are second to none; click HERE to visit his registers)

We'll keep the same format as its Sprint counterpart, namely:

Chassis number (Will disregard "AR" for better legibility in actual listing)
Year
Model (Giulietta/Giulia; 750/101)
Build date
Level of originality: Barn-Find-Rusted-Heap; Original; Repainted; Refurbished; Under Restoration; Restored
Any special features on your car such as: "comes with a hot tub"

REGISTER:

1960 101.07 Giulietta Spider Veloce AR*167172*
Engine 00106*01075*
Red/black
Built Sept. 28, 1960, sold May 31, 1960
Operable, very good condition, unrestored (repainted and repaired over the years as needed)
Picked up in Rome and shipped back to Portland, OR. One owner from new til 1998.

Thanks for doing this Pat. Chris Boles has a bunch of Spider Veloce info on his website at Spider Veloce, Sprint Veloce and Sprint Speciale Registers that may be outdated by now.

Funny, I just yesterday decided to do the same with Giuliettas Berlinas and TIs; seems only a natural to add to my Berlina/Giulia site (Berlina Register)

Hello,

My medley goes as follows...

Model: Giulietta Spider 750D
Chassis number: 1495F02537
Built: 16/9/57
Sold: 2/1/58 in U.K.
Original colour: White with red/ black interiors
Engine: 1750 Webber Twin Carb from a Berlina, GTV or a Spider
Engine number: AK0054881152
Current colour: Red with grey interior
Current state: Nearly complete restoration

The history of the car is a bit sketchy. As you can see above it was sold in the UK in 58, but according to the documentation I have it was registered in the UK on 16/6/67.

My guess is it was scrapped due to engine failure (or probably fire from the look at the wiring!) then ressurected in 67 with a new engine.

My Grandfather bought it in the early 80s, stripped it right back and has been rebuilding slowly since! A dodgy hip on his part has meant that I've taken over to add the final touches.

Tom

Andrew and Tom, I've posted your information to Post #1. I also added my own car.

Tom, one question: 750D denotes a Normale, while the "F" in your chassis number references a Veloce. Now which is it? This is CRITICAL information, and not to be muddled with!

Welcome to POSTING on the BB!

Patrick,

Here is my addition as per Marco Fazio, Automobilismo Storico Alfa Romeo Archivio Storico. It seems my car, not a Hoffman import, was sold to the Product Division of Alfa Romeo Switzerland. Bill Eastman, the person I purchased the car from thinks it might have been a European show car for those 14 months:

Dear Mister Kraus,

with reference to your request we are informing you as follows.

According to our documentation files, the chassis number AR F167952 and the engine number AR 00106.01389 originally correspond to an Alfa Romeo Giulietta Spider Veloce, manufactured on the 18th November 1960 and sold on the 12th January 1962 to Società per il Commercio dei Prodotti Alfa Romeo from Lugano, Switzerland.
The body colour is black.
No further information available on this car.

Yours, Sincerely,

Marco Fazio

A question for the knowing: can one tell between a 750 and 101 Spider by the chassis number alone? What about the switch from 1300cc to 1600cc (in other words, from Giulietta to Giulia)?

Patrick,

Thanks so much for the Registry work, sorry I will leave your above question for the more qualified. The following is the letter I received from the Archivio:

Dear Mister Kearns,

With reference to your request we are informing you as follows:
According to our documentation files, the chassis number AR 1495.05883 and the engine number AR 1315.32128 originally corresponds to an Alfa Romeo Giulietta Spider Veloce, manufactured on the 2nd February 1959 and sold on the 3rd March 1959 to Hoffman Motor Car Co., New York, U.S.A.

The body colour is red.

Yours, Sincerely,

Marco Fazio
Automobilismo Storico Alfa Romeo
Archivio Storico

Level of originality: I purchased the car in an unmolested condition with the exception of one prior exterior repaint and is now currently under restoration. Included with the car came pages and pages of hand written documentation dating back to the late 60's.

Red Piping

Greetings:
As far as the red piping goes, was it an option, or did it become standard at some point in time? My '60 Veloce is red with black interior (No red piping on the seats)
Regards Ian.

Hi Pat

Here are our two ’60 Spiders – what are the odds that my Dad & I could end up with cars, built in the same year, both being Celeste Blue ??

According to our documentation files, the chassis number AR 1495.08930 originally corresponds to an Alfa Romeo Giulietta Spider Normale (101.03), manufactured on the 10th February 1960 and sold on the 23rd December 1960 to Titan Industrial Corporation from Johannesburg, South Africa.
The body colour is sky blue (AR 301), with black skai interiors.

According to our documentation files, the chassis number AR 1495.10990 originally corresponds to an Alfa Romeo Giulietta Spider, manufactured on the 15th July 1960 and sold on the 19th July 1960 to Monago Motor Ltd. from Durban, South Africa.
The body colour is sky blue (AR 301), with black skai interiors.

08930 was white when we bought her, she’s in the process of being rebuilt & will go back to being Celeste Blue, 10990 is Resale Red & in very nice condition

Ciao

Hi Pat,

Enclosed some info about my 1962 Giulia spider. The car has been fully restored and is almost in original condition. Currently the car is painted AR759 which is a metallic version of the original AR716.

corresponds to an Alfa Romeo Giulia Spider manufactured on the 24th November
1962 and sold on the 29th May 1963 to Mr. Leonard R. Sagen c/o Hoffman Motor
Car Company from New York.
The body color is graphite grey (AR 716) with red interiors.
