Patrick -- Hope this is the right way to send additions to your register. A couple of additional bits on the 1956 Spider 1495.00253: the engine is 1315.40223 and the car is under restoration, white with red. As Genericwood mentioned in one of his posts, the early cars have some distinct features. #253 has brass windshield posts, hinges and trunk emblem mount. The seat mounts are narrower, the rear wheel well has a seam and the front drive shaft on mine is 1/2" longer than the later cars. My 1958 Giulietta Spider is the ex-Frank Payton Land-O-Lakes SCCA G-Production car, AR 1495.04020 with engine 1315.43642. It is under restoration, black with black. It raced from 1962 - 1968 and has a number of period competition features. The 1963 Giulia Spider I have is 376388. I don't have the engine number here and the car is in storage. It's an original car with a 1600 and a 5-speed and it is red with black. It was bought at the factory in Milan by Joe Brown of Cleveland. Nicknamed "Brownie," he was a well-known racing photographer in the midwest, who took pictures at Put-in-Bay, the Akron Airport sports car races, Watkins Glen and other events. The Alfa was his second sports car; his first was a black MG-TC. -- Carl Goodwin

Patrick -- Build dates on my cars: the AR 1495.00253 was built on the 12th of June, 1956 and sold on the 21st of June to Max Hoffman and the AR 1495.04020 was built on the 29th of April, 1958 and sold on the 19th of May to Max Hoffman. I am in the process of getting the build date on the 1963 Giulia Spider from Alfa - I almost expected it today since they do not observe Martin Luther King Day. I'll send it later. -- Carl

Patrick -- I just heard back from Alfa Storico on the 1963 Spider build date. AR 376388 was manufactured on the 21st of March 1963 and sold on the 6th of June. It was sold to Hoffman Motor Car Co. so it must have been a European delivery car because I know the owner, Joe Brown, picked it up at the factory. The car has 34,000 miles and I am the second owner. It is a Normal (101.23), as is the 04020 G-Production car I registered earlier -- by the end of its racing career in 1968, the Solex-carbureted cars were in SCCA's G-P class and the Veloces were in D-Production, reflecting the "performance" classes rather than the earlier displacement classes. -- Carl Goodwin

I have just heard back from Centro Documentazione Alfa Romeo <CentroDocumentazione@alfaromeo.com>. I am told my Spider chassis number AR 1495.00584 originally corresponds to an Alfa Romeo Giulietta Spider, manufactured on the 31 st August 1956 and sold on the 7th September 1956 to Hoffman Motor Car Co., New York, U.S.A.

The body colour was white, as it still is.

Another 750D for the BB Spider register

Here's the facts according to the much admired Elvira (back in 2002)...

"According to our register the chassis number AR 1495.03466 and the engine number AR 1315.43225 originally corresponds an Alfa Romeo Giulietta Spider manufactured on the 24th January 1958 and sold on the 20th March 1958 to Titan Industrial Cars from Johannesburg, South Africa. The body color is red.
Yours Sincerely,
Archivio Storico Alfa Romeo
Centro di Documentazione
Elvira Ruocco"

The car was in restoration at the time, and no longer has a red exterior (though the interior is a different story), as the attached photo shows.

Original engine is still in the car, and ran well recently, but is currently in need of some attention, having run briefly without water :-(
