The luggage rack on the boot is interesting.

They were quite fashionable and reminds that Brit sportscars of the day had relatively little room in them.

I have one on an Alfa Giulietta trunk lid up in my attic! It's been up there like that for at least 35 years!
So much for fashion I guess!

Greetings All

I have a 63 Giulia Spider (101.23), #AR372596, manufactured on September 7th 1962 and sold September 29th to Alfa Romeo Inc., Newark. It is, and always was, a Red car with Black interior.
This is my first post on these boards and I'd like to thank everyone for sharing their experiences and tips. I'm just beginning a full restoration on a fairly solid car and have already gleaned some terrific pointers for the project.

Thanks
Steve

Welcome! Steve, you will hopefully find the BB a wonderful resource for your project. You probably have already read Pathung's threads. Be sure your car is in his register.
You might consider a photographic discussion, as Patrick has done, showing and TEACHING us restoration techniques possible by an individual as opposed to a restoration shop. You will have fun here!

Welcome, Steve. I've added your car to the register. For uniformity's sake, I've based the car year on the year of actual manufacture for all submissions, so your car is being shown as a '62, though likely registered as a '63. Hope you don't mind.

Unlike what Gordon claims, I don't teach anyone anything as I'm a novice at this; it's rather the other way around! Gordon, on the other hand, is an excellent resource for all things Alfa Giulietta/Giulia, and will surely be happy to offer great advice on any facet of your restoration if solicited.

Have fun on the BB!

Gordon, the BB is my escape from daily drudgery; the more I typed about the restoration, the happier I became. So I'm trying to drag it out... It's coming along nevertheless, and I'm hoping to get more work done on it this weekend.

Unhappy Oh my!

AggH! Well, the worst of the trim damage is the bumper, and body work in that area is easy. (No filler please!) Finally the color should not be bad to match.
This needs a post in "The injured Alfa thread." I use my '65 as well and the possibility of damage to the nose is frightening!

Thanks for the welcome Gordon and Patrick... I'll try to photograph as much of the resto as possible but when it comes to a this sort of work I can't hold either of your lunch boxes.

Steve,

The stuff I do can be successfully tackled by any level-headed amateur! FYI it's my first restoration of any sort, and by the tools I've purchased to embark on this project, you'll see that I really didn't know/have much starting out: a Craftsman toolbox from Sears ; a complete HomeDepot Husky Brand ratchet set; a Harbor Freight air compressor/hobbyist-grade blast cabinet; a Craftsman bench grinder; various tools such as sledge hammer (for those damned tapered ball joints); mallet; torque wrench; tap/die set; screw extracting kit (this never works); torch gun; wife's hair-dryer, etc. etc.... all basic tools that an amateur needed to get any work done. Plus lots of advice here on the BB. For the sophisticated parts such as engine/tranny rebuild, drum brake restoration, and differential, I farmed out to my Alfa mechanic, with me by his side trying to learn as much as I could. I naturally had a guy paint the car, since I don't know how to do body work nor paint.

With enough time and a proper budget, all relatively mechanically-inclined and logical persons should be able to take on a "nice driver" level restoration, and have lots of fun doing it!

We look forward to your restoration thread.

Dan, I've added both cars to the register. When you obtain your car's build date I'll update the entry. Thanks for submitting!
