Basically a "how to restore a car properly" thread . I tip my hat.
Did Alfa Romeo really paint their engines, I'm particularly interested for 1750 GTV's as I always thought they were just bare alloy??? I hate painting alluminium ... oh man am I going to have issues .

Maybe I can help you with your issues -- I didn't paint my engine! Although there was evidence of what looked like yellowed clear coat on the block. I walnut blasted my aluminum then scrubbed the hell out of it with cleaners and kitchen scrubbies.I did paint my valve cover with Hammerite.

Naw, Alfas didn't paint their ALUMINUM engines! They didn't need the bling- that was Fer----. The castings clean up really well with a brass toothbrush and carbcleaner. They are NOT a beadblast matte finish either.

Just Stunning! Congrats!
The yellowing you saw on the bits is a old used car trick that thay used to do in the 70s and earlier. I always Hated it. One of my Sms had it all over the beautiful 4 cam V6 and the 3 DCnfs
So Good to see all

transferring my title from California to Oregon
I started a new thread on this subject and didn't get any response so I am posting it here in the hope some of you will respond.
I am in the process of transferring my title from California to Oregon and changing some mistakes made on the registration for my 1960 Giulietta Spider Veloce (it has '59 in stead of '60). I was wondering what other members have for Vin numbers on your registration for Spiders. For example, is a 1300 cc 101 series Veloce listed as AR XXXXX.XXXXX or F XXXXX.XXXXX? How is your registration filled out and was it a European model or a Hoffman Motor Car Co. import?
Cheers,
George

You don't find many black spiders of this vintage, so consider it something special.

Very Cool George Now shes in the U.S.A. wounder how that happened.
I had some DMV issues with reg date ect.
I would start with the Main DMV Office in your State.
With your info form A.R. It should be changed to reflect it info.
Please make sure she has been in the USA for years and any other info to cover your rear.
"It could be a bureaucratic a mess", But with persistence you will get it done. I did in Calif. Then after one year I got letter & a check back that said we hope you car has not been on public roads because its not legally registered..
I razed hell up in Main DMV Sacramento Calif. Paid more $$
Finally got it done.....
You will too I hope its goes well up your way.
Keep us posted.

Beautiful..
I Like the way the car "sits", too. It enhances the already attractive lines.

Dear George,
I've had two long-term 1950s imported cars registered in California since the 1970's.
In both, California DMV had already registered them by ENGINE number AND by year of first SALE (in California).
I have been working in the collector car imported repair business since then, and I've seen this form numerous times, perhaps it "used to be" that a V.I.N. of 3619 (my 1956 Morgan) was just too short a number to look impressive enough on the 'pink slip' and that by making the year designation a year later was 'giving the benefit of the doubt' to a perceived higher newer value.
This became a problem with our state's new DMV computer which rejects mismatched records automatically forwarded to the DMV. I encountered the problem with proof of insurance and wound up changing my insurance policy to match the engine number of my Giulietta, since it was easier than a real correction or convincing the DMV that they had plural policies in the past.

Title problem solved
Thanks to all who responded. I have successfully transferred my title from California to Oregon and changed some mistakes made on the prevoios California registration for my 1960 Giulietta Spider Veloce (it had '59 in stead of '60). I how have the transferred Oregon title and new special interest one time registration using my original vintage 1960 Pacific Wonderland plate.
Cheers,
George
