George,

The flasher in my '62 Giulietta Spider operates just as you and Doug Depperman have described: flash with lights off, no flash with low beams on, flash with high beams on.

I believe Subtle is referring to a 101 Giulia Spider which had the double button arrangement. George's car is a Giulietta with horn ring and single button for the flasher.

My Spider was one of the late Giuliettas.

And my Giulia has the double buttons, so I'm probably no help!

Reply from Lionel

This is what I heard back from Lionel. Looking at the wiring diagram I don't know why I should have to swap wires. The hi-beam works fine with the foot flasher. But, I will try his suggestion on Monday when I am back in the shop.
..................................
Hello George,

The flasher should work as follows:

Lights off - lights should flash when center button is pressed.
Lights low beam - should flash high beam.
High Beam - should have no effect because both high beam and low beam elements are on at the same time.

Troubleshooting the circuit:

Try inverting the headlamp green and gray wires one headlamp at the time while the other is completely disconnected. Please let me know of your results.

Hope you had a great Thanksgiving.

Regards,

Lionel

Andrew,

I don't know about the Giulia's only the Giulietta, but I think you are correct about the Giulia 101 wheels have a button and a ring around the button on the hub. I have a Giulietta and it has the separate chrome horn ring and a center light flashed button.

With all due respect to Lionel, the wiring diagram and the fuse designations in Giulietta owners manual #772 clearly show that the headlamps flash on LOW beam, a common Alfa practice for many years (at least through the 115 USA cars).

Thanks papajam, that's the way the wiring diagram shows it too -- low beam activated center button. I would prefer the button activate the hi-beam instead; much more useful.

Piece 'o cake. Remove the 1.0mm gray wire (as opposed the 2.5mm gray wire) from the top of fuse #7 and connect it to the top of either fuse #5 or fuse #6.

Perfect solution. I will try it, looks like that should work.

papajam, that was the solution! Thanks.

So Giulietta owners with original steering wheels and those of you who have the "steering wheel center button" flashing only the low beam, here is the solution to change it to work the hi-beam. In the fuse box, remove the 1.0mm gray wire (as opposed the 2.5mm gray wire) from the top of fuse #7 and connect it to the top of fuse #5. See photo of change wiring.

Now when headlights are off or headlight low-beams are on, the "steering wheel center button" flashes my hi-beams.
Cheers,

George

Skyline Drive

I just came back from a very spirited drive on "Skyline Drive" in the foothills just south of Portland in my Veloce. Beautiful clear, crisp day. Perfect to scrub off a little rubber on the pavement. God I love driving this car...

George

Nice up here today as well, but it's my day to work.

However, if I took a drive through the twisties along Marine Drive it would be with the top down--and it is 43 F.

Marine Drive Portland? Problem is Portland's Marine Drive has 30 to 50 mph winds today. That's why I went west.
