How to mount hood mat for 750's

Hi all,

I'm back again for some more guidance from the Giulietta jedi masters.

I want to install the hood mat in my '58 750 but I can't figure out how it goes in there. I have beed using a 101 series as a guide, but there are differences in how the hood is constructed.

As always, I brought plenty of pictures to help ask the question.

Here is how the 101 goes together.

The mat tucks under the hoods lip at the front of the hood.

In the middle, the 101's owner tells me that the center strip is removed and that the cross piece will pop down. This allows space for the mat to slide down behind the cross member. I use the term "tin-canning" to describe how the cross-member will flex and pop down.

Finally, the mat tucks under the lip at the rear of the hood.

Notice how the black metal strip also tucks under the lip at both the fron and rear of the hood.

P.S. I know that the metal strip should be cad plated, or otherwise have a silvery finish. The 101's owner preferred powder coating, and that looks really nice, too.

The metal stip that goes from front to back is not configured in the same was as the 101 that I showed. At the point where the metal strip meets the front and back, there is no rool for the mat to tuck under the sheet metal.

Looking at the cross-member, it does not look as though it can separate and pop down from the hood. At least not from the metal strip. I made some efforts to pull and pry down the cross member without any success...at least not at the levels of pressure that I was willing to put on it.

I also removed the chome strip from the hood, thinking that would allow the entire longitudinal metal strip to separate from the hood sheet metal. In this way, I hoped that the mat could slide behind the entire assembly. "No go" n that, the metal strip seems firmly attached to the hood sheet metal.

So, how does this go? Gurus, go to work!

Somebody has to know whether a 750 gets a hood mat, and how it goes in there...

There are two answers to your original question:"How to mount hood mat for 750's ".
The first is: With much difficulty
The second is:NOT!!! 750 Giulietta's didn't have them and are not designed for them.

Got two unrestored 1956 Sprints with smooth silver insulation mats. I could possibly get pictures if it will help.

There are two other 56 Sprints there, it'll be good to get info on a few more.

Jon (jburning17) has a 750 Spider not Sprint, so the hood mat is not applicable here.

I have wanted to send photos of all of our Alfas, but I am always busy running an auto shop and my dad is always up to his ears in alligators. I will try to get pictures this weekend.
