750 Center Grill Repair Cost

Hello all,

I purchased a used original (brass), beat-up center grill quite reasonably off of ebay for my mother's 750 Spider and took it to a local bumper repair/rechroming place to get a quote. The grill got a tiny crack (small enough that I can cover it with a rubber trim *I know it's not original for the Spiders* if I decide to install it on the grill) at the edge right by where the emblem sits, and has a tiny hole (probably from hammering) in one of the side bars. Manager at the bumper place told me that those (a crack & a hole) cannot be fixed, and gave me a quote of 160USD for reshaping & rechroming. Does this sound reasonable, or would you need to see pictues of the grill as it is right now to answer the question? BTW, it's painted bright yellow right now.

The old brass grills can be easily repaired if done by a craftsman with motivation. Unless careful attention to detail, the can come out wavy! Also critical, is that the grill curve is correct to fit the cars nose. Has the car had bodywork?

Thank you for the advice. The car is in Irvine, CA right now with its body repaired and painted so I guess I will get it done in CA nearby where the car is. Without your advice, I would have wasted $160 and turned the grille into a display-only piece. Thank you very much.
