Ian and Rick, will add your cars to the list straight-away.

Does anyone know when Alfa stopped making Sprint Veloces? Was it when the 1600 came about? A follow-up question: did 1600s still run Solexes? I see that Ian's car sports twin-Webers. Thanks - thought I'd learn something early in the morning before the turkey slows me down later in the day.

Pat,

Dad's car was retrofitted. Originally had a Solex as I recall with the spider style canister air filter. From what I've read, no 101 Sprints were fitted with Weber DCO series carbs.

My recollection of dad's car included 3 shoe front brakes. The car now has discs in the front.

Hi Ian,

I guess that there were no 101 Veloces made then.

My '63 Spider also comes with 3-shoe drums.

May I add my Sprint to your list;

AR 1493 01149
Manufactured 16th November 1955
Sold 26th November 1955 in Italy.
Colour ; Azzuro Capri.

One private owner prior to me,never been restored,50K from new !
Currently running on Borrani Wires,but still have the `rolled edge` rims with the spare probably still wearing it`s originall Pirelli.

Let me correct myself... Sprint 101 1300 veloces exist but 1600's do not? Is that more correct?

Hello Tony!

I have your car added; you're #4 on the list. Looks like you English boys kept all the old/desirable ones to yourselves!

You must have owned and spruced up quite a few Alfas, as everyone in England seems to own an "ex-Tony Ranson car", and love it ;-)

According to the book on racing Giuliettas, The Sprint was not available until 1956. It was the project of Engineer Giuseppe Busso and later race tuned by Conrero.
The book claims that US clients could by a kit to convert the "Normale" to Veloce specifications for $1600 (1956 US Dollars).

Confortevole in barn photos

I spoke with my dad and he did say that it was a special car that was one of only a few made, so the Confortevole branding should stick with its history. The car was originally some shade of white, as evident by the dash and door jambs, but was repainted red at some point. The cans of paint are still on the floorboard, and the chrome pieces are on the backseat. I am hoping to retrieve it from its current sad storage during the Christmas holidays.
I attached the two photos I was able to grab while scrounging around this old barn in my best suit. The other car you can see is a 1951 Packard coupe.

On to restoration. What are the best books to buy? What are the names of some catalogues I should send off for? Are there any online resources I can use? Please send me as much information as possible; I know you have it!
This will be my third restoration project. I have done two resto-rod rolling resorations on two Datsun 510s, one 1971 and one 1972. I promised myself and my wife that this one would be back to stock trim. My last restoration, in retrospect, would have been a lot better had I just taken it back to bone-stock, instead of stuffing a 3 liter V6, LSD, and roll bar into it.

I have a few minutes of grainy video from 1995 or 1996 in the barn before it fell on the car. It might give a little insight into the previous condition or status of the car. I will try to convert it to digital so I can post it on YouTube or something like that.

If you have any more information on this model, I would be very appreciative of you sending it my way!

OK, so the pictures were pretty much the same... This barn used to house the Alfa, the Packard, and a 1930s vintage Mercury with suicide doors, in addition to the 1959 Ford Workmaster tractor.
Thanks for any information you can give me. Does anyone have any suggestions as to which step of restoration should be first?

I would start by carefully dismantling the car labeling and photographing everything in the process. Next to the media blaster. This should give you a good idea about what the "metal termites" have done all those years. I think sheet metal repair is the most time consuming and expensive part of the restoration.

Hello All
My Giulia Sprint was sold 16-04-1963 in Milano then moved to Piacenza on the 29-12-1973.The last road tax before storage is 12-01-1974 ,the car is now in UK and is totally rust free.The car was officially converted to run on G.P.L and soon after the engine cook up,the only choice then was a 1300cc, the engine still runs very well at the moment
I have now intentions to fit a 1750 and change the colour ;from helvetia blue to baby blue the chassis number of mine is AR357362
