Lots to tell and I am writing the story so far for the Giuliettaletta. By the way has any BBer heard of Carlo Canonica who lived in Aosta, Italy, in 1957. It is suggested that he was the purchaser of my Lightweight.

I have no idea of what white it is. I doubt its a stock color. The engine compartment is original and is differs somewhat. I found two bottles of
touchup paint in the trunk. Each one different. One is GM artic white. When I
get the Sprint back Ill determine the color.
Per Marco Fazio the original color for AR158941 was Gardenia White. The present color is GM Artic White which is actually not too far off. Its actually much warmer then the term "Artic" would imply.

Did Marco Fazio in the same e-mail give you the original build date, as well as where it was first sold? Just need these two pieces of info. to complete your car's profile. Thanks.

Yes he did,
"According to our documentation files, the chassis number AR 1493.04700 originally corresponds to an Alfa Romeo Giulietta Sprint Veloce, manufactured on the 19th April 1957 and sold on the 29th April 1957 to Carlo Canonica, Aosta, Italy.

The body colour is Alfa red."
Yes but who is Carlo Canonica? No mention of his name from the Aosta census!!!
regards,
Stuart

Thanks for the info - it's a nice colour. The Resale Red is starting to peel off mine so the repaint is closer than I thought...

I'd haphazardly guess that Carlo Canonica was a dashing, young film director who also had a penchant for fast cars and beautiful women. Much like yourself (when young and single, of course), Stuart.

Hi Pat

I just found some old notes about some Giuliettas I used to see around here, and I noted down some serial numbers;

1493-21493: 1959 101.03 Sprint; has been sitting in a Montreal area scrapyard for about 40 years. Was too far gone first time I saw it (1979) now going back to nature. Fairly complete, maybe some of the glass is good. Looks like it was grey.

1493-08730: 1959 750F interim Veloce; found in a field near Ottawa in 1985. Was originally French Blue, repainted white. Deeply rusted, I parted it out and gave the rolling shell to a friend. Believed scrapped around 1990. The serial number may have been used on a smuggled Normale.

1493-08758: 1959 750F interim Veloce; was in Toronto in 1983, possibly earlier; sold to UK around 1990. Red, in fairly nice shape with original engine/DCO3s/etc.

1495-11354: 1959 101.07 Spider Veloce: sold new to Hoffman, bought in Montreal by current owner around 1973. Originally Bianco Spino with Pf hardtop, is currently unpainted, in a 10 years + restoration process.

Hi Pat

I got info from Centro Documentazione about the Sprint I dismantled years ago:

"Al numero di telaio AR 1493.08730 corrisponde in origine una vettura Alfa Romeo Giulietta Sprint Veloce di colore blu notte, prodotta il 24 marzo 1959 e venduta il 22 aprile 1959 a Montreal, Canada" (Budd and Dyer)

So the car was originally dark blue, not french blue.

Regards

YB

another 750 interim Veloce

Just found this ad:

Selectcars4u.com

This car (photo clearly shows 1493 08625) is owned by a fellow here in the Montreal area. Car was brought in from the US one or two years ago. Original data unkown. Nice shape but a few restoration errors... how many do you spot?

Have you considered sending the complete register to Marco Fazio to fill in the blanks?

Yves,
I got to 20 and quit on the restoration errors. I am not an expert on these cars, but a customer has a very nice and correct '58. I've had some time to get used to his with its original interior.
This IS a lovely car, done very well to an owners desires. If there are "errors" let's just call them "upgrades"!
