If you would like to keep your real name confidential, please do not include it in your post (the BB handle suffices), and if you choose to e-mail me, advise me of your preferences. By the way, Sprint Zagatos (as well as its variations) are also welcomed, as I know a lucky few of you have one lurking around in the back of the garage.

Below is a list of information for each owner's car. Please provide me with the following information:

Car Year
Car Model (Normale/Veloce/Confortevole/Allegerita/Tall/Grande/Venti/Extra Hot (if you're confused, DON'T let me know))
Chassis Number (stamped on the firewall in the engine compartment, passenger side LHD)
Build Date (month and year of manufacture - this info. can be obtained by e-mailing: ArchivioStorico@alfaromeo.com, to the attention of Mr. Marco Fazio (Mr. Magro retired)
Engine Number (stamped somewhere on the block)
Original Color (official Alfa code/name, please)
Photo Post (we're all suckers for a good photo - let me know if you need help posting photos)

LASTLY, if you find this thread useful, please kindly donate to the AlfaBB by scrolling to the top of this Web Page, and clicking on the "Site Donations" link in the green menu bar. Thanks in advance on behalf of all BB members.

Pat has just started to transfer Spider data into the register, I guess we just have to be patient until he gets to the Sprint data...

Yves is right; I'll get to the Sprint register once I finish the Giulietta Spider's. Guess what happens after the Sprint's? That's right - 105 Spiders. Call me crazy, but every classic Alfa model (pre '75) deserves to be appreciated with its own register, no?

As these are all becoming classic cars, and the survival rate is reasonably high for cars not sold in mass quantities in the U.S., future owners will greatly benefit from your efforts Patrick. It wasn't that long ago that the same effort was done for all the manufactured Ferrari's. Now most cars histories are known, and buyers can check the register and document specific cars. The more information available about specific cars, the more secure from misrepresentation that particular car becomes.

Hello, it's great looking at everybody else's cars. I just bought my car a week ago. My first Alfa was a 58 spider veloce, and then I drove a 67 Duetto for 8 years. Thos are gone, but my new neighbor saw that I have a lot of Vespa and Lambretta scooters, and thought I maybe interested in his dad's high school Alfa parked on the side of his grandparents house. It has 27,000 oriignal miles. "Crappy brakes" made them park it 10 years ago. After seeing it, I bought a 1962 Giulia 101.12 1600 Sprint. I plan to restore it keeping the Bluette paint color. Please add my info to the registry. Marco Fazio says that my car #AR354243 was manufactured Sept 21, 1962 and sold to Hoffman Motor Car Co. on Nov. 22. Hope to see some fellow AlfaBB'ers at future "Best of France and Italy" and Road Rally events. Thanks, Lee Herendeen -Palos Verdes Estates, CA

Wow!! Nice find. Just a day newer than mine. Lets see more pictures when you get it out of the bushes. I would be VERY interested in seeing this car due to its originality and proximity in age to mine.

Folks, due to my crazy ambition to keeping three Alfa registers at once, I find it quite taxing to update Thread No. 1 and the Google spreadsheet in parallel. Instead, I will be posting past and future submissions on this thread exclusively to the Google spreadsheet, with a link that will bring the reader back to the original submission post here in this thread, so no information provided by the "submitter" is lost. I will be doing the same with the Spider Register. The spreadsheet lets me sort/present the information in a variety of ways, which I think is more useful to viewers, and is possibly more accessible to owners who are not current BB members/users.

Please let me know if you have concerns or comments, and most of all, suggestions on how I can make the new spreadsheet register more useful/legible for you all. Thanks.

Below is a link to the Sprint/Spider/GT registers; there is also a link in my Signature.

1600 sprint numbers

Interesting to see that Alfa confirms that the Sprint in the bushes above was built the day after mine, yet the ID number is 498 higher. Could Sprint production have been that efficient???? I think not. So what gives then? Were cars completed out of sequence based upon colors, options or some other unknown factor?

Ian

Alfa Romeo Giulietta Sprint build anomalies

Good question!

I think it quite likely that there were batches of cars that could skew things a bit. But, other variables were also present. A good portion of the build was done by Bertone and they had their own numbering system and schedule. Alfa Romeo was in Milano and Bertone in Torino. This means that batches of cars were shipped back and forth over the distance. The first car off the truck or train might not have been the first car back on the transport for the return trip?

Certain cars for certain clients might have been given a "rush" priority, either at Alfa Romeo or at Bertone or perhaps both? Then there was a governmental inspection process that resulted in the Certificato d'Origine being issued for each car. That part of the process might have varied a bit for cars intended for domestic consumption and export to various places? In any case, cars actually completed on different days might have been inspected and verified on yet another day or days and it could be that it is that inspection (and document issuance) day that is reported more often than not as the completion date?

There are other possibilities, but a 500 car numerical difference in cars "born" a day or two apart is no huge theoretical problem for production cars such as these. Now, if 600 cars had been built over a two year period, then we might want to start looking for reasonable explanations why these two cars were declared as having been "built" or "completed" on consecutive days. And, it would be nice to think that we can know the "why" in any case. It does not hurt to ask or consider the various "whys" that are possible. With enough data collected about each car, we might figure some of this stuff out.

Best regards.

John, I think the mistery of quantities and numbers will go on forever unless
Alfa Romeo make their handwritten ledgers public.
Presently I own 2 Sprints Veloce "lightweight" ;
AR1493E 03559 , body 77265 or 77285 (it is hard to read) engine 1315 30279
manufactured Jan. 04 1957 , colour Bianco Spagna and sold to Switzerland on Jan 15 , 1957 as per Certificate of Origin
This car is presently being restored after a hard rallying life.

The other car (currently for sale as it seems greedy to have two) is
AR1493E 4347 , body 77468 , engine 1315 30526 manufactured on May 27, 1957 but only sold to Portugal on September 16, 1957/ Colour White

Interestingly I know od another "Bianco Spagna" lightweight
AR 1493E 03807 , engine 1315 30359 manufactured February 5 , 1957.
It must have been a popular colour for 1957 only, unfortunately nobody seems
to be able to provide a paint code.
Maybe other register members can help.

I hope that it's okay to add your two lightweights to the register.

Aren't you able to obtain your cars' color code from the Archivio?
