Smile Colour: Tornado Blue

Hello everybody!

This is my first message for the Alfa Bulletin, and it is a request for some information.

We' ve bought a Giulietta Sprint from 1959 whose identity has been verified by the Centro Documentazione Alfa Romeo. The original colour is "Tornado Blue".

Question: can anybody give me a clue about this colour? What sort of blue is it?

I would be most grateful for yor help...

Language Etiquette

I believe that it should be more than fair to ask that the common language used here should be English.

Sorry, I think you are right!

It´s just that Carlos and me we are very close friends (cousins!) and co-owners of the Tornado Blue Giulietta.

For the benefit of everyone here goes the translation of my message:

«So the young man started his postings on the Alfa BB? It would be nice to get some information but for now no one paid any attention. Let´s wait»

Regards

A V

Welcome to the BB, Carlos!

This sounds like a very cool project. I can't help on the "Tornado Blue" color, but I'm wondering if there is any part of the car that may still have the original color. Has the whole car been re-painted?

FWIW (For What It's Worth), here are a couple of threads that discuss colors, although they are Alfa colors of much later years:Best regards,

Glad to see that your etiquette request was fulfilled, but shouldn't you also follow some good BB etiquette and first welcome the author of the thread (who did post in English) to the BB?

Best regards,

Well... thank you all for your "ins" and "outs" about my newly initiated posting activity!!!
I attach a couple of pics of the "Tornado Blue Sprint" and although the car has been repainted with a nice navy blue colour, a lighter blue can be seen on the dashboard... will this be the Tornado Blue?

It could very well be this colour which is original. Can't find the name though at the moment.

Carlos,

Welcome to the group. Looks like there are an increasing number of Sprint showing up all over these days! They were hibernating for some time. Anyway, Your car looks to be of same the color as the one on the picture. Nice color. I have a '60 Sprint Veloce of the same color. http://images.google.com/images?hl=e...h+Images&gbv=2

Thank you all for your help.
With the help of AV, we've managed to find out the colour code (AR319) in the veloceregister.com. But ... no, this car is not a Veloce... we'd be so lucky!!!
Thanks GTA2 for your pic. It does look to be that colour. I prefer the Navy Blue, but we'll see how it goes...
This car was imported into Portugal as a new unit in 1959 (its year of manufacture) and has been here since.
We'll keep you posted of its rebuild and, without doubt, we'll be asking a few more questions...
With the colour reference, I am going to try to get a sample of this colour made and will post the final result...

We did find the same code through veloceregister.com as I said above.
Thank you again.

Carlos, I gather you are in Portugal. My car , a Sprint Veloce, was sold new to Portugal, imported by Mocar in Lisbon in 1957. Do you happen to know if this company still exists? I would love to find out more about it's history.
Thanks , Bart

Yes GTA2, I am in Portugal. I am not very sure if Mocar (Alfa Romeo importer untill 2000) is still active, but it is (or was) part of a big automotive group (Santogal). I will try to get you the correct contact for that purpose, and will get back to you.
