Oh?
Lionel, your first post really set into motion a wonderful exchange of data. I'll get it right... 7003 Sprints.. some made by hand... Veloces with backseats..some with lighter parts... oh, heck, I think mine is worth $175,000.
ANYONE! Call me I'll give you a deal for 50% off because I farted in it. PS I'll throw in the tool kit. Uncle Rick The real rubber meets the road if someone can come up with conclusive evidence why Alfa built light weights and Comfortovoles and why they started and stopped. Seems Pat Braden would know. Pat, send us a postcard from heaven

Greetings,
This is my first time on the Alfa B.B. so here goes. I have been looking for some kind of registry or list of the remaining lightweight Sprint Veloces. My father has a 1956 lightweight Sprint Veloce (chassis AR1493E02619) and we are interested in finding other cars and their owners. I submitted this car to the Veloce Register but it has yet to appear on the list. Any information or suggestions would be appreciated. I look forward to spending time reading and replying on the Alfa B.B.

Jonathan:
IMO, there are only about 30 lightweights left in the entire world, and I don't think anayone knows for certain.
You have already contacted the the US veloce register, and in addition, I would contact Peter Yaxley through the English giulietta club, and their magazaine, the giuliettaletta. Here is a link:
http://www.giuliettaregister.com/letta.html
There is also a 750-101 group on yahoo groups.
Best of luck,

IMO, it's pretty simple; less weight means better handling and more speed. Alfa stopped making lightweight sprints because Zagato was doing esentually the same thing. As to the confortovoles, some people simply wanted cars with regular back seats.

I have been waiting for your appearance Unlike you, I have not had the gracious priviledge to fart on the car's drivers seat as of yet, but I would consider a similar offer and I would include a brand new wiring harness on the sale

The Veloce Register is currently broken due to a server crash. I am holding several cars in my history file to be up dated as soon as I can get into the server. Seems something is amiss with the log in so I can do some file transfers. Don't worry. I am following this thread with interest as it really is getting into some "meat" on SV's production. If I have questions or comments, I will be sure to post to the BB if you don't see your car listed.
Lionel, you have a great peice of rolling history! I can recommend a great guy down your way that can rewire your car back to factory specs

Giulietta Sprint Veloce 1st series Restoration pictures
Hello guys
Nice site to see some restoration work. The car was painted silver and I don't believe that this color was an available option for the 1st series production car. It doesn't matter what color the car is or was painted I am just pointing out the color preference. It sure looks great on the car and it was one of my top choices until I opted to keep the original color.

I think there would be any number of people willing to pay $50,000+ for your car when done. I know of an early 1955 column shift normale sprint that went for close to $50,000!!

A Quick reply to Alfazagato;
Added up Sprint Veloces up to 06611 and I got a total of 719 out of Tabucci, these are the total 1st series handbuilt bodys before the machine pressings were introduced into the production in June 1958, starting with different structure of chassis. Agree with Jan's tally?
A quick reply to Twincam Paul an his request for 'no bs--as measured' weight:
I used Jim Groom's race equiptment and got a wet 'full equiptment' weight with 40 litres of fuel (1/2 tank- about 30 kg) of 925 kg. (2040 lb.) from 1493E-06559, Confortevole, as follows: LF:563 lb. RF:556 lb. LR:465 lb. RR:456 lb.
Cheers, Laurence

Thanks for the weight info Laurence. With a steel bodied confortovole this weight looks spot on at 895kg semi dry (ie with oil, water and no fuel) as trhis is the factory claimed weight I think.
I'll let you know what 01722 (lightweight) weighs when I've got a couple of small things sorted and the car is back on the road. I shall be amazed if it comes out at 770kg!!

Those figures sound good to me; with about 225 of the cars being lightweights and 100 Confortovoles. I would assume as "standard" SV to be about 15-20 kilos lighter, and a lightweight to be about 60-75 kilos lighter than a Confortovole

For further discussion on 750 Sprint numbers, see Martinue's thread on SVZ's on the 'limited production' category of the Alfa BB.

Lionel,
I never used your wiring harness in my 1962 Sprint Veloce. In fact, I rebuilt the drivetrain, but still have to paint the car and put in a new interior. I will probably finish the car after I retire from work. The car was purchased by my late father in June, 1961 and just sits in the garage. I will probably paint the car with the same type of paint and bring it back to original condition. I think that the old Alfas bring back old memories, but cannot compare to the new sport cars of today.

Lionel:
Is 6011 a small headlamp car? I am trying to determine what is that last car built with the smaller headlamps.
