Suspension differences - Giulietta and Giulia Sprint?

I was told that Alfa beefed up the suspension bracing in the Sprint in the late '50s or early '60s. That is, supports were welded in in the later Sprints that did not exist in the earlier Sprints. Can anyone confirm this and tell me what the differences really were?

Thanks,

Jeffrey

Hi Jeff

750 suspension is much lighter in construction than the more robust 101 suspension.

Saying that I've got a spare front suspension off a '59 / '60 interim car & the upper & lower A arms are a bit beefier than the ones on my '57's, but lighter than the ones on my '61.

That make 3 different suspensions in my garage & the ones on Gabriel Fisher's December '54 Sprint, 1493*00071 are lighter still.

I've never heard of different bracing in the body shell of a Giulietta versus a Giulia. The Parts manual does not show anything.

Regards
Greig

What parts can be swapped out? Will later model suspension bits fit on a 59 Giulietta?

The answer is YES, your '59 will have the "interim suspension", looks like the 101 style, but is slightly lighter in construction.

Your '59 will accept the later style suspension, try source from a '61 model upwards, then you will ensure that you have the most robust A arms.

Rear axles are a straight swap, the later 101 trailing arms are more robust, with bigger bushes than the early 750 ones. The later style will fit on your '59.

Sprint / Spider & Ti suspensions are all the same, only the spring rating, length & number of coils is different.

Ciao

Did any of these later rear ends come with a LSD or is that just all the 105 cars?

There were some LSD's , but these were few & far between, mostly 'engineered' by the various tuning houses over the years.

There is a conversion kit that will allow you to run a 105 diff in a 101 car The conversion kit was made by some one in the USA - I believe that they are not in business anymore. I do know of one car with a LSD centre built into a 101 casing. It can be done, but it's not cheap - I'd suggest that you got in contact with Richard Jemison on this forum, Alfar7 or RJR Racing specializes in Alfa Romeo Automobiles

Are you a member of the 750/101 Chat Group on Yahoo ?? = about 800 Giulietta owners.

Ciao

Chassis beef-up in Giulias?

When I bought my Sprint Chris Robinson told me that the later Sprints had more chassis bracing where the suspension bits bolted on. I've never actually seen this and I can't tell whether my car has it or not.

If anyone not only knows the real skinny and also has or can take some pictures of the underside of both an earlier and later Sprint it would be great (although pictures of only a later Sprint would do pretty well).
