GTD, it turns out that one of the rear brakes was frozen, so the wheel wouldn't turn; hence the towing from the tail end. Maybe the tow truck driver was British?

Patrick,
You must have a pretty good job and supportive family if you can take on these kinds of builds. Bravo!
Is this one going to Akitaman eventually?

Pat,
You've only got around nine months or so to get the GT ready for the Melee; it's in September, not October.
See if you can get your wife to enter her pretty black Giulia too, okay?
Regards

I'm not sure to whom the car will go to at this point, Matt, as I'm REALLY, REALLY far from thinking about that right now. Prior to going full bore on the GT, I might want to fix up my '71 Spider's body a bit (dent in door, rear fender, and bad patch on hood) so that my wife is no longer embarrassed being seen in it; and that's important, since it's my only running Alfa. After that it'll be the GT's turn.
I'd seriously like to drive the GT on the Melee; however, due to the stuck brake, I have not driven it at all. Glenn (my Alfa mechanic/guru/God) did drive it a couple times back and forth between his shop and home in Berkeley, and the mechanicals (other than the grabbing brake) seemed fine. I'll fix the brake and test the mechanicals all through summer to make sure I don't get stuck by the side of the road during the melee.
And yes, Shaun, my wife will be driving the Giulia (provided I finish it); she wouldn't be caught dead in the GT, in its highly endearing, present form. There's algae growing on it for sitting under a tree in Berkeley for God knows how many years before I dragged her out of there - poor thing. Sweet Fulvia, by the way! Is that your steed for the Melee and other more prestigious events? Saw two really amazing ones at the Concorso this year. The orange car might have been the one on the cover of Hemmings Sports & Classic Car a few months back.

Pat, your "fix the brakes" strategy -- while technically correct -- may not be optimal for the Melee.
For example, Matt might not have received the Melee's highest honor, nor had as much fun, had his Sprint's brakes been fully functional on this past year's event.
Also, I'm believe that getting "stuck by the side of the road", while not mandatory, is fully within the tradition of the event.
Algae, however, usually indicates disuse of the car and is frowned upon...
I think the orange-red HF at the Concorso in your pix belongs to Adan ("Fanalone" on this BB) and it is the one featured in Hemmings. It's a stunning car.
Regards

Back to the topic at hand.
Just received my five Vredestein Sprint Classics - 155SR15; they sure look skinny; I'm assuming that they'll squeal like pigs under hard cornering
On another note, I have two non-matching headlight rings - one sports the Carello script on the top, the other does not; the only hole on these rings is at the bottom (6 o'clock position). Does anyone have a used scripted ring for sale? Mine needs rechroming, so a pitted specimen is acceptable. I'd also be happy to trade my plain one.

Squeals Like A Pig
no, they'll squeal like pigs under soft cornering.
Tires are the one area where I gladly embrace technology improvements. I've replaced my skinny 155 Pirelli's with Yohohama 185s--recommended by an Alfa racer-- and the improvement in handling was nothing less than phenomenal. Cost less too.

Did you put these Yoko's on a stock car with stock wheels? If so, what was their full name? I'm about to order two Vreds, but wouldn't mind a little more rubber than the 155 gives!

Squealing Pigs Redux
I'm gonna work on my Alfa this afternoon; I'll pull all the info on the Yokohamas I mounted on my '63 Giulia spider's stock 15" wheels. I'll post later.
Best, Vince Coppola
