I'm planning to install the dashboard knobs (idle; choke; headlights; cigarette lighter) tomorrow; interestingly, Glenn told me that I wouldn't be needing the "choke" cable since twin Webers don't have a choke feature, as does a Solex. Looks like I'll merely be curling up that choke cable somewhere under the dash.[/quote]

Patrick,
The DCOE series of Webers definitely had chokes (I think the earlier DCO series did not have chokes). If you're using DCOE's, you should definitely hook up the choke cable and make use of that knob on the dash.

Italian plates!

Alfazagato,
THANKS! I will follow up on this and report back to the BB on my findings. How bad a ticket will the Illinois police write me for a "correct" plate in back, with a shrunken one in front on my 275GTB, as compared to currently, with -0- in front?

The term "low speed enriching device" is used to explain this system. The confusion comes from us expecting a butterfly blocking the air coming in. The Weber system is slightly more complex, but has little in the air stream to block or disturb air flow. When you are ready, Patrick, let me know and I'll send you photos of the OEM installation. Stuart and Gordon,

I found a U.S. website where all sorts of license plates can be made with one's own numbers. The link below is for the black, large Italian plates, for US$80 (is this sort of what you had in mind, Stuart?):

Italy Provinces European License Plates, Italian Square Euro License Plate -LICENSEPLATES.TV

Just not sure where the STATE name would show, and where the stickers would go.

I attach a two views of my number plates. Gordon, you will probably find a couple of holes on the underside of the front LHS bumper for the brackets for the front plates.
Patrick, you can arrange the letters and numbers to allow the tags to be located as required. On my rear plate I am about to paint in the replica state stamp on the raised 20mm diam area to the RHS of the SZ.
Happy New Year!

Stuart,
Very Nice! On the 275 the bracket is a little bent galvanized sheet metal thing that fastens center nose bottom, right where the black paint starts. I have the bracket, but now will have to get an Italian frame!

Gordon and Bob, The front and rear aluminium frame surrounds are readily available in Italy and I dare say that many of the on-line boys will have them too. My Daytona has a chromed brass surround which is more slender than the normal pressed aluminium version.

Jim, I've installed the choke (enriching feature) cable as you suggested (I'm running 40DCOE2s from a later Giulia); I'll bring this up with my mechanic this weekend.

All four knobs are in, with the following items to install to complete the dashboard: dashpad; heater; glovebox.

Attached are photos of the freshly-wrinkled-painted steering wheel column - Eastwood, what else! I did notice that it's a somewhat "rougher" wrinkle than the original, but not bad at all. I followed the instructions on the can: spray on two thick coats, separated by 3 minutes, then let dry, possibly up to 48 hours. After painting, I simply left it in direct sunlight for 1.5 hours. It's relatively dry to the touch, and produced the wrinkles shown in the photos. I'm leaving it by a heater vent for the next two nights - rain forecasted in the Bay Area.

I had a very difficult time with the wrinkle finish on the dash and especially the column and the front dash trim. I tried Eastwood's wrinkle and had no luck. I ended up painting and repainting the column and dash trim about dozen times before I was satisfied. I ended using Plastic Coat wrinkle black, and even then It took another couple of tries. The main dash took two tries before I was good.

I ended up using a heat gun to carfully fan heat over the surface to "cure" it.

Cheers,

George

George, what was it that you didn't like in your initial trials, Eastwood and otherwise? Thank goodness my car comes with a vinyl-covered foam dashpad!

I have tried wrinkle finishes for years and some are + and others - . Sunshine and the perfect temperature & humidity seems to do the trick. Lately, when time counts, I've farmed it out to the powder coat wrinkle finish guys with 100% satisfaction, (at their cost!). I still like te DIY technique, 'cause I like DIMyself! Gordon Raymond

Patrick, I have had a similar problem and have fund that an additional coat or two) of satin black dulls the wrinkle and makes it appear less rough.
