Ah Patrick, extra parts. Well I guess you can never have too many old Alfa parts, right? I had the same problem last time I R &R'd my rear axle. The way it came out, I had borrowed some from the front suspension. When correctly assembled, the bolts with washers and nuts are just long enough so the palmutter nuts (you saved those, didn't you?) will go on and leave just about 4mm thread showing. They only go one way.
I really like the black job you did on the bolts/nuts/washers. Much better than stock, and preferred over just blasted and sealed. Lacking your industry, I sent all my stuff out to a commercial shop that gave them a black oxide treatment. Looks stock, but NOT as nice as yours!
Best, Gordon Raymond

Nope, but you might check with the usual suppliers in the States for info.

Does anyone have a take on the bolt question I posed in post #149?

YES, you are correct in your assumption.

Thanks for your input, Gordon and GTD; I'll attempt the install this weekend. I did keep the palmutter (what kind of a name is that?!) nuts; they're waiting to be blackened.

The number of Alfas with that clean an engine compartment can probably be counted on one hand!

63 Giulia Door handle

Hi all.

I am restoring a 1963 Giulia and am currently working on the interior. I want to reupholster the door inner panel but can not figure out how to remove the door handle? Is there a retaining clip? I can not find it. I am able to move back the springloaded flange but the handle does not release from the post.

Any ideas?

If you press in and look closely, you'll see a pin that runs through the base of the handle. It can be popped out.

Gauges

I had the gauges on my 62 Sprint done by MOMA here in Albuquerque New Mexico. They do contract work for Palo Alto speedo and are much more reasonable. (505) 766-6661. 1312 2nd st NW, Albuquerque NM. As I recall I paid $175 per insturment. Work is to the highest standard. They can no longer can get the face for the Veloce 101 speedo but had the tri gauge and 8000 RPM tach when I had mine done about a year ago. Please do not quote me on the price, as things do change.

Tosh,
Just had a spare Alfa Veloce spedo returned from Palo Alto. Rebuild included cleaning and recalibration, replating the case, and a NEW spedo face.
Cost was $150. I use them for Alfa & Ferrari gauges, and they know me,
so perhaps that is why the lesser price. (indluded shipping & insurance.)

Axle Install

Finally got the rear axle back from my mechanic. I swapped out the 5:12 with a 4:56, for more relaxed highway cruising. With everything painted and ready to go, it didn't take very long to install the assembly onto the car. Still remaining to be installed are brake shoes, drums, and shocks, but as it is, the car's a "roller", at least in the back. See attached pics.

I'll be installing the front suspension next week - does anyone have a good picture of how the limiting cable is attached to the spring pan up front? My car came without such cables, but I've bought new ones to install.

can you restore mine?

wow.

this is one of few threads I follow actively (next to the 'Greatest Passion...Italian women...).

Can you restore my GTV like this? ;-)

The quality of work looks to be higher standards that I 've seen in ' professional restauration houses'.

Great work. Great thread. Looking forward to more updates.
