Bob,
Found photos of a neat Sprint on the AROC website (2010 Convention)... the owner's last name is "Itin".

That be my nephew, Jim from Delaware. Yes, we have cars on the East coast too. It's quite a spectacular older restoration and a magnificant color.

Dang, those guys were practically in my neighbourhood! The Don Q inn is 15 miles away, wish I knew. I hope they got off the main road for a bit. The back roads around here are awesome.

Patrick,
Uncle Rick is right, that's my '62 Giulia Sprint, and the color is Bluette. Rick has actually judged the car in an AROC concours back in ancient times (I think at Kansas City), and looked it over this past summer at the Frederick convention. The photos you posted are actually from the '09 convention in Chicago (we were on the pre-convention tour at the time -- great roads). And for the record, the car is always driven (from Delaware) because trailers are for race cars.
By the way, there used to be a bluette Giulia SS in Ohio, owned by Mary Pontius. A fantastic color for that model! Maybe cars with a lot of curves look better in the dark blues.
Jim

Wow, a nice car! I love the Bluette, but it would be interesting to see the Tornado Blue next to it. I think the Tornado may be a little lighter. Thanks for sharing.

Love your project Bob! I always assumed my 59 was an original factory very light blue. Any idea if original or which blue mine may have been? This scan from 1973 before I had it resprayed black and regretably sold it to pay off the new nova ss and keep the Simca my wife liked better. Dumb Kids!

skiwalk, that could be mine
RC, some of the darker spots on yours look right.
When you look at the registry, you don't see a lot of this color.

The 2 primers over a (perhaps Celeste blue?) was just before re-paint So, 3 or 4 blue shades in 59? I keep hoping someone will uncover my old Sprint and return it in any color.

Reason: So my 73 spider might be 59 Tornado blue apparently?

This post from last year described this color as Tornado Blue. It appears to be slightly lighter and a little "blue-er" than Bluette.

Bob,
Whoa up on the printout. The Sprint in Shade Tree's post above is NOT Tornado blue -- it's Bluette. It's my car (Jim in Delaware), same as in the photo the Patrick posted above. Photo was shot at the site of the Concours for the Chicago convention (2008, not 2009). As is true of many dark colors, lighting makes a huge difference. And though it doesn't show in these photos, there is a slight touch of green in bluette, rather than a touch of gray in later dark blues used on early GTV's.
In order to get the correct "bluette" color, I found the correct paint code (AR327), gave it to my painter, and he was able to pull the formula from the archives. If you get the code for Tornado blue, it should work for you (get a small test batch mixed up first, tho').
Jim

Well, I tried. It was the only post that I could find that was listed as Tornado Blue. What's that "don't believe anything you read" thing?
Jim's right, though. You'll want to get the paint code and let your painter find the formula. Even when you have the correct paint color it will look slightly different based on what color primer is under the paint. I'd recommend a few samples before painting the car itself.

Yes, good advice. I have the code for Tornado and have passed it on to the painter.
Happy New Year!

For a look at the blue on my 101.12:

And click on the Blue Sprint build.
Not wishing to intrude--only to show the colour.
