Chrome Gauge Bezels - buy new or rechrome?

Hi all:

I want to restore the chrome bezels on the three gauges on my 60 Giulietta. I note that there are some vendors that sell new rings (inner and outer). First, would you buy new rings, or would you have them re-chromed? Which is cheaper?

Additionally, does anyone have any links to vendors that sell these rings? Thanks!

Todd

If your rings are not pitted, new chrome would be easiest IF you have a GOOD chrome shop. This should be less costly than new rings. Should yours be pitted below the remaining chrome, replacements are available from OK Parts and Engineering in Germany.

Todd,

I intend to buy a set of the outer bezels from Alfastop in the UK. My bezels have been misplaced during my relocation and I am sure I will find them once I 've bought new ones. The new ones can be used on my second cart hat came without most of the chrome work. I believe the price is 47 GBP plus freight and insurance. Unfortunately they were out of stock in July, I sent them a request last Monday, once I have them I can let you know about the quality.

regards,

Jelle

Thanks everybody. I will try to rechrome them first. Looks like there is a good local place that can do them at a reasonable price.

My advise is to makes sure before you re-chrome is to get the edges as smooth as possible, the edges are bent due to the screwdriver you used to remove them.
I have re-chromed mine and i found the the bezels are harder to bend back due the increase in thickness once re-chromed. And you will not get a smooth finish when bending back the bezels, and it is impossible to get the glass clean from any dust, so don't be disappointed ones you put everything back and see a speck of dust.

On a positive not, the re-chroming is a much better finish then original.
