The amount of spacing needed does vary and remember that there is a 1:1.5 (approx) relationship between spring length and actual ride height. So for my two pennyworth this is what you should do. Visually check that the two chassis legs are an equal dimension from the level floor when static, and that the lower wishbones are parallel to the ground. If not measure the difference and establish what needs to be done to achieve parallel wishbones and equal chassis height. Switch springs and remeasure....if they are different.... by how much. Armed with this information make a temporary spacer cut into two which can be slipped round the bottom of the spring easily. Recheck the ride height of the car front and rear. If OK then you can see what is required.
