Vaor lock-1965 Veloce Spider

Has anyone had a problem with vapor lock on hot days(88 to 90F); please let me know if you have a solution. Do you think gas with 10% ethanol is the problem?

I had this problem today and continue to shorten my messageon this site as I keep getting "cut off".

Yes, it could be the rotten gas, I suppose. It happened to me in a Weber carbed Super 1.3 at a McDonalds in the drive thru lane after I shut down. Very embarrassing to have to push her out of line as others behind me bit their lip and fumed over this silly looking fouragn car that konked out.

Opened the hood, asked the mgr for a super sized cup, Filled it with ice three times and poured each over the carbs and intake manifold. I was on my way after the ice disappeared. Don't have a real solution I 've tried other than google the subject and read . Rick

This beautiful and rare Giulia is one of only 1093 Spider Veloce's built in 1964 and 1965 and is fitted with its proper 1600cc Twin Cam all aluminum motor and the dual Weber DCOE carbs plus disc front brakes. There is no rust in this car, other than small bits of light surface rust, floors are all original as it has been in CA all its life and one family since 1967.The engine and transmission are original and are re-built both are in excellent working order and the transmission is one of the best Alfa transmissions I have ever driven: there is no 2 nd gear crunch due to worn synchros. The Giulietta, and later the Giulia are the cars that took Alfa Romeo from being a relatively small production company to being an economically viable and successful firm.

I would check the gas tank and see if it has sediment clogging the wire screen at the pickup. You can remove the sender unit and look inside the tank with a flashlight to see if it is clean. You might have to remove the gas tank and have it boiled out and sealed. Be sure if you have it sealed to remove the plug in the bottom to remove the screen. Check the filters at the carburetors to see if they are clogged. Some junk does get by the filter/pressure regulator if the filter hasn't been cleaned in a long time. Changed out the filter in the regulator? You might also have a weak fuel pump as with time, the diaphragm gets hard and won't pump alot of fuel.
Since the Veloce has the mounting fixture behind the right rear wheel you might want to consider installing a Bendix electric fuel pump.
My 65 Veloce never stalled on me for vapor lock when I was living in the San Juaquin Valley...temps reaching over 100.
Check these items and report back.

If carbs and fuel pump (electrical?) check out OK, gasoline with alcohol will often cause problems with vapor lock in old carburated vehicles, especially with a mechanical fuel pump in the engine compartment - especially at slow speed and high ambient temperature, though a little bit unusual in an Alfa w/ electrical pump?

The best solution for vapor lock is a gas separator with a return line to the tank. See page 21 in the Pierburg catalogue:
